View Full Version : Hello, I'm John and I'm an alcoholic
Hi,
I'm new here. I would like to share my history a bit with the group in a
later post, if that is OK.
But in the meantime I was listening to a song recently and suddenly when I
started thinking of the "you" in the song as alcohol it seemed to mean a lot
to me.
So sing this song to alcohol.
Best wishes and regards to all who suffer,
John
The Closest Thing To Crazy
Katie Melua
How can I think I'm standing strong,
Yet feel the air beneath my feet?
How can happiness feel so wrong?
How can misery feel so sweet?
How can you let me watch you sleep,
Then break my dreams the way you do?
How can I have got in so deep?
Why did I fall in love with you?
CHORUS:
This is the closest thing to crazy I have ever been
Feeling twenty-two, acting seventeen,
This is the nearest thing to crazy I have ever known,
I was never crazy on my own.
And now I know that there's a link between the two,
Being close to craziness and being close to you.
How can you make me fall apart
Then break my fall with loving lies?
It's so easy to break a heart;
It's so easy to close your eyes.
How can you treat me like a child
Yet like a child I yearn for you?
How can anyone feel so wild?
How can anyone feel so blue?
CHORUS
....and being close to you, and being close to you.

welcome aboard! stick around, things can get interesting!
Later
John
I was out for dinner the other day, and heard a tune, that I guess was done
with Willie nelson, and someone else called "Whiskey for my men, beer for my
horses"
And I thought, MAN! Oh, yeah I don't drink anymore! (sort of took me
back!)--good tune, even if the message isn't!!!!
but you're right, for me music is excellent therapy--either listening to, or
attempting ( ;-) ) to play some of my own!

the next best thing to being clever, is being able to quote someone
who is.

>So sing this song to alcohol.
This is the song I sing to my desease. Some days it makes me cry, because my
desease has me. Some days it makes me proud because I feel stronger, free from
the Alcoholism. I listen to it often, it has become my sobreity theme song.
my immortal
Evanesence
i'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all of my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish that you would just leave
because your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone
these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me
you used to captivate me
by your resonating light
but now i'm bound by the life you left behind
your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me
i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
and though you're still with me
i've been alone all along
Welcome John I like the song you posted here is one you might like, I know
I do because I lived it.
Kenny Chesney / That's Why I'm Here
Written by
(Shaye Smith / Mark Alan Springer)
No I ain't had nothing to drink
I knew that's probably what you'd think
If I dropped by this time of night
Remember way back when
I promised you I'd drop in
At one of those meetings down at the y
Well, they started talkin bout steps you take
Mistakes you make
The hearts you break
And the price you pay
I almost walked away
You could hear a pin drop
When this old man
Stood up and said I'm gonna' say it again
Like I do every week
For those who don't know me
It's the simple things in life
Like the kids at home and a loving wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here
This ole boy stood up in the aisle
Said he'd been living a life of denial
And he cried as he talked about wasted years
I couldn't believe what I heard
It was my life word for word
And all of the sudden it was clear
It's the simple things in life
Like the kids at home and a loving wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here
I know for us it may be too late
But it would mean the world to me
If you were there when I stand to say
It's the simple things in life
Like the kids at home and a loving wife
That you miss the most, when you lose control
And everything you love starts to disappear
The devil takes your hand and says no fear
Have another shot, just one more beer
Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here
Oh, I've been there, that's why I'm here
Glad to have you here John
