Hi,
I'm a newbie and was thinking about stopping drinking.
I find it almost impossible to go an entire week without getting drunk and
I've been like this for almost 5 years. Do you think I have a problem?
Anyhow, if I was to quite drinking, what would I replace it with?

Well, you certainly have a problem getting drunk at least once a week.
Two questions:
1. When you drink, do you have control over the amount you take?
2. When you decide to quit drinking, do you find you drink again?
If the answer to 1. is "yes" (which, in your case, it apparently is),
then the suggestion is to quit drinking.
If the answer to 2. is "yes", then you qualify as "alcoholic". Have
you genuinely tried quitting?

Alcohol can be replaced with liquids that won't dry out the body and
pickle the brain and liver, such as fruit juice, soda, tea, coffee,
etc.
However, if you're referring to the feelings that alcohol brings,
that's a definite sign of alcohol dependency, or "alcoholism". Those
feelings can be replaced by working a recovery program.

That's only part of the equation. I reconcile it with:pages 22, 23,
24, 26, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43).

Alcohol abusers often have no defence against the first drink until
they handle *their* underlying problem/s.
The common diagnostic for real alcoholics through your chosen AA text
follows from the doctors opinion, behaviour *after* the first drink.

good sense. It explains many things for which we cannot otherwise
