View Full Version : How do we stop all this porno crap?

hey guys,
this porno stuff is getting WAY beyond funny. I don't know a lot about NGs,
but, is there a way to stop it? (these same f(*&$)*&# ing ads are on my other
NG's too, so they must be making an assult on us).

anyways, I'm on AOL, and so it only retains so many messages at a time. and
when you need to sort through like 100 porno ads (that I suppose nobody reads)
to find one or two posts, it's troubling.

any thoughs on getting rid of that crap and getting back to work?

i don't think there is, any EASY way, to avoid the crap john.
i keep throwing the authors in my killfile and they just change their addys!

I would set up another screen name - then only use a mixed up one to

The bad news: You're with AOL.
They try to keep you in their intranet.
Means you don't get to the internet without effort to break out
of the AOL intranet.
They also have their own Newsservers.
Which I'm told means you have to use their newsreading software
to access their news servers, which probably won't work with
standard usenet providers. Don't know if another ramification is
lots of spam internal to AOLs newsservers. (wouldn't be
surprised though) :(

I'm not seeing hundereds of porno ads.
Venture to say others here who don't use AOL but some other
usenet provider aren't either.

Sad to say the only solution would be to either dump AOL, or get
an additional usenet provider. Then you could use other
newsreading software, and its' accompanying kill filter system.

There are some free news servers for text, and for binaries.
I don't have the info handy though.
You could check and/or ask here:

Hi guys. Free Agent is a newserver. Just don't know if AOL will prevent it
from working. I wouldn't think so. I don't get those porn ads with my
service provider, either. I do have another address with Yahoo that I use in
the groups. With using Outlook Express, I could put in any old thing I want
as a name and address. AOL doesn't even let one use Outlook does it?

My newsreader (Agent) has a decent filtering facility. I don't see
any of the spam.

The fellowship that the book talks about is the fellowship of having
done the work together, of having worked the Steps. That's a world
away from much of the clique to be found in AA meetings.

Most people drink precisely because they feel they DON'T fit in. So
in order to recover, one surely does not have to "fit in" with the
crowd in the AA fellowship. If they did, then that's a catch-22 right
there... "you won't get sober unless you fit in"? No. A sense of
fellowship grows naturally as the program is worked, along with doing
service jobs etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm convinced that Rock is in the right place, and
doing what he needs to do today. But it seems folly to turn that into
an assurance of long-term recovery. AA is a program of Action, not
simply being part of the "in" crowd.

LOL if you honestly don't see any cliques in AA meetings then I can
only conclude that you're a part of a clique.

actually, i DO know of a meeting (that CALLS itself AA) where there are a few women who "stick together" and drag their
"pigeons" (their word) around by the arm.
EVERYONE else be damned!
the old bats, all sit together etc.

i not only don't go to that meeting, i don't even consider it an AA meeting.
(they are anti-medication NAZIS who have a couple of suicides to their credit)
i expose their TRADITION BREAKING shit as often as i can!
i warn everyone i know NOT to go there !

my sponsor had a deep resentment regarding that NAZI group, and their behavior, and his sponsor told him to get a coffee
pot and start a new meeting.
we did!
we started with four guys and myself, it is now over 200 strong and there is no place for cliques, as the group believes
that the newcomer is THE MOST IMPORTANT person there, and they are included whether they want to be or not.

me part of a clique?
ROTFLMAO

you REALLY don't know me at all BM!
your just busy running at the mouth about AA as you see it, and its very paltry behavior ....................why not
stop?
its no wonder you had trouble staying sober........................why not go to meetings that don't have the problems
that you complain about?

I do. I'm just not blind to what goes on in much of AA today.

Well Mias, would you have rather those people been out drinking, instead of
discussing spam?
Some in this group have helped me with the how to's on the computer.
If I am relying on this group to keep me sober, I'll probaby drink again.

How can this be? I mean, gee whiz, we have all this sobriety and wisdom

You made quite a leap there, Rosie Blabbermouth. WTF is "fraudulent" about
a comment to a self-confessed queer about his queerness?

I wouldn't be throwing the word "fraud" around too loudly if I were you.
You might wake up McGregor who will have to post his collection of your
