I think i messed up when I posted this or responded under the subject
"I need advise" it wasnt intended to get me ADVISE...I already
know!...it was basically me telling my story of what can happen to good
people who make WRONG DECISIONS!!
I have been a drinker for many years..my EX boyfriend (alcohol ruined
the relationship) told me that he doesnt feel I am a total "acoholic"
its just that I don't know when to stop once I start which, i hate to
admit is true! I can tell you from past experiences and what is going on
with me right now, drinking, at some point, will lead to drinking and
driving which happened to me...I got 2 DUI's in 5 days!!!! One on a
Thursday night, and another in a different county on the following
Monday night (both were "aggravated" DUI's, meaning I was WAY over the
""legally drunk" point. I just spent 2 weeks in jail which was hell...I
go to the other county on Feb 2 for my next sentence. NOT only have I
been out LOTS AND LOTS of money (to bail me out of jail was $800 in one
county and $750 in the other) plus both times my car was empounded,
attorney's fees arent cheap, because of this, I have lost my license
for a year...not to mention how long for the next sentence...and have to
bum rides to acohol treatment classes which is part of my sentence!!!!!
I also feel that as bad as DUI'S are, this is probably the best thing
that could have come out of it...i didnt kill anyone, or myself and for
that I am thankful! I could be facing a murder sentence(s) plus having
to live with hurting/killing some innocent person or even DEAD! I had a
friend drive me on the rode I was arrested on and it was probably the
most horrible curviest road I've ever been on (i was lost) I SAY
"PLEASE, FOR EVERYONE'S SAKE, IF YOU HAVE A DRINKING OR DRUG PROBLEM,
DONT DRIVE!!! and you might want to think of getting help WHILE YOU
STILL HAVE LICENSE and can drive to get help!

While your aim of "spreading the word" on the dangers of drinking and
driving is worthy, I think you've picked the wrong forum and are "preaching
to the choir".

all of those experiences seem like a GOOD REASON to "put the plug in
the jug" and get into recovery, but alas, it won't be, for many!
this disease of ours is insidious, persistent, and a killer.
i thank HP daily, that i no longer drink, and take my life or others
behind the wheel of a car.
i KNOW that "normies" cannot understand how anyone with the above
experience wouldn't just stop drinking, but we do...................
thanks for posting!

not necessarily imo,................there are many who post here who
have gone back out and are drinking again, or posters and lurkers
who haven't quit yet.
my recovery is ONE DAY AT A TIME, dependant on my daily spiritual
maintenance, so being reminded of one of the reasons WHY i quit is
always a valuable tool!

Oh no no no...please don't anyone feel that I was Preaching.....i am no
where near worthy of preaching to anyone about drinking...trust me!
I just thought posting that might help someone, especially the ones who
are thinking of trying to get some type of help, to think before they
go OUT to drink...both times I was arrested I was just bored and thought
I would go out and have a FEW which turned out to be a FEW weeks in
jail..., I was not preaching because when I feel someone is "Preaching"
to me about drinking I just block them out.

Hi,
Been there, done that, too! I would say that I'm sorry however, that would
not be true. You gambled and lost.
The problem, as I see it, is that people believe it only happens to the
other guy. Just like cancer or alcohol/drug addiction. People who have had
too much to drink will seldom if ever admit it. Part of the effect of
alcohol is that it makes us feel in control. The more we drink, the more
control we THINK we have. That is why it is much easier to get someones
keys before they start drinking instead of after.
Of course, this is only my opinion, I could be a total jerk! Just ask my
ex. I'm no fun w/o alcohol and drugs. This may sound crazy however, I find
that since we have split, I have no desire to drink or do drugs AT ALL. We
were responsible for not making it work and the alcohol/drugs was simply a
coping method to use instead of dealing with the real issues. BAD CHOICE!
Will anyone learn from my mistakes? Only me, I'd bet.
Kirk S. <nine days and counting... off to the therapist tonight... got
some anger issues to work out, or could you tell?>
