I am now getting on 3 years sober and realise that everyone yes everyone has
moods and downers and thankfully uppers. Went on a big downer and had to
keep saying to myself it will pass it will pass and guess what - it did!

You have to have the bad feelings to appreciate the good feelings. Life is
so much better now that I'm not drinking - downers included.

How well or quickly "it" passes depends on how earnestly I'm doing the
stuff I need to do. If I carry on doing depressing stuff, the result
tends to be .... erm .... depressing :)

But I can see what you mean, in that my first foray into depression
since drinking offered the temptation of booze to "medicate". After
resisting that time, and doing whatever else I needed to do, the
subsequent occasion I was able to remember from experience that I
don't HAVE to drink when feeling in low spirits.

vicki,
learning to live LIFE ON LIFE'S TERMS was a great awakening for me
too.

surviving the normal ups and downs (not to be confused with clinical
depression) after alcohol cessation through recovery is probably
the most miraculous tool!
