Unfortunately a lot of them come to see accepting such unhealthy self images
as healthy for them. They fall into the trap of accepting AA generated
terror over relapse into adopting such an unhealthy self image, and worse
come to believe that it's absolutely necessary for them to maintain it.

that is exactly my point.

the 12 step message has been relayed very effectively to the public.

the general public (mainstream society) is pretty sure that anyone addicted
to drugs simply cannot break free.

they also blindly believe that drug consumption is the worst thing one can
possibly do.

drug use is viewed as being a terrible waste of a life. however going to war
to fight for one's country is seen as virtuous and a wonderful thing to do.

the irony is that anyone going to war has an above average chance of
receiving the outcomes attributed to drug addiction (Jails, Institutions or
Death).

And why shouldn't they believe that with legions of steppers going out of
their way to convince them of that bogus fact.

A tad overstated.

Interesting observation.

Why doesn't the fact Stump and Dick sing to the same tune surprise me?

Gosh, you paint such a poor image of their selves, that you appear
intent on convincing them.
