PS: When I saw my doctor on that day in June 2003 when I decided that
I was going to quit drinking, he advised me to gradually cut down my
consumption of alcohol. When I told him that I'd tried over several
months to gradually reduce the amount I drank, been unable to do so
and therefore, that I thought I was an alcoholic, he agreed that what
he wanted me to do was not an option for me. Instead, he recommended
I straightaway stop drinking altogether and gave me some meds to take
everyday.
As some of you know, when I gave up drinking this year, I was not in
such a sorry state as I was when I gave up in the 1990's. From what
I've read here, I know that I did not have major withdrawal symptoms.
I am thankful for that.
