View Full Version : While making my confessions
The Other Harry

One morning a few years ago, I woke up on the front
yard. A light rain was falling. I do not know how this
happened. I think I went out looking for my dog.
I came back in, took a shower, and put on some dry
clothes. Got another drink. The dog was okay.
My major concern was whether any of my neighbors had
seem me. They probably had not. I was not right in the
the very front.
But as denial goes, this was it. You can't go passing
out in the front yard in the rain without thinking you
have a problem.
I could, however. All I worried about was whether I had
been seen. I wanted some dry clothes and to know where
my dog was. That was all.

so?
I stole my neighbors TV, and they gave me a bible.
I shit in a bucket on my patio.
I tried to steal a motorcycle in broad daylight, with a pair of pliers.
I drank, pissed and puked everywhere.
My neighbor said to me, "god watches over babies and fools" because she saw
me get off my motorcycle and stumble up the stairs in a blackout.
Basically what I am saying to you is...
"You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying
material as the rest of us. we are the all singing all dancing crap of the
world."
Put down the booze, STFU, and start your recovery. you want pity? you came
to the wrong place bud. Rosie might hug you all the way to the bar, but I
won't. If you want to be sober, you have to do the footwork.

Right on.
Alcoholism is an illness, and like every illness there is a pattern. It
occurs over, and over, and over again. You only have to watch this newsgroup
for a while to know this.
New members straggle in every week Every one thinks that he or she is the
unique snowflake. But the truth is that we are are all just blown by the
wind.
You might identify with Shawster, or JB, or Bobby, or Gail, or Rosie, or
Debs, or Moonraker, but someone in this group knows exactly what you are
going through right now, because they have all been there.
You have to decide whether to perish on your own or find your place with
others who have found from experience what works, and what doesn't. If you
decide to stay, read everything here. You will find your answer somewhere in
the group. You just have to find it.

I don't know that I agree with this. I think we are all
snowflakes -- to some extent. We share a flaw, but that does
not necessarily make us bad people. I think we are each unique.
And we don't get just blown in here by the wind. We came here
because we wanted to. Some are more sober than others, but we
are all here because we sought out this forum.

well see there you go thinking again. the sober people see the sameness,
the drunks see their unique and therefore incureable plight. your flaw, as
you say.
you are a child of god, made perfect in his image. you just drink, and are
self centered rather than god centered.

Jeez, if that were true, and there really was a God as "perfect" as us, it
would sure explain a lot of divine fuck ups.

That is probably a big part of my problem. Major. Big time.
There's nothing wrong with a Suzan. Crapping in a bucket on the
back porch could become a problem. So could passing out on the
front lawn.

I certainly didn't. I came here to escape the Dragon. I was blasted, rather
than blown, in the door. All black & crispy.
If I could have beaten this on my own I would have. I tried all the
philosophising stuff too, and became a very drunk philosopher. The
collective wisdom in this forum will help if you decide to listen to it. You
may be unique, but your problem with alcohol isn't.

Well, you did make it back. That's about all I can say. But it
is better than not making it back.

No - and come to think of it, it was a Honda Nighthawk. Came out and
found a screw driver stuck in the ignition. Probably a blessing in
disguise, because I was drunk at the time and probably would have
killed myself or someone else had I rode it.

wasn't me then. but it could have been...
all the times I rode drunk, I should be dead a hundred times over.
