bad times

Hi my name is Den. I am over three years sober in the fellowship. I do all
kids of 12 step work in area 30 and dist.21. This past week a 16 year old
boy who lived with us died. I have to say this is hard, But as AA has taught
me you can't drink. I post this for anyone out there that is having a hard
time. We can do what I could not. We had a camping trip plan this weekend
and my son his best friend said we had to go. I have a hade time with GOD
but my HP. will help me get through it.

Hi Den,

Firstly, may I say how very sorry I am to hear about your son's best friend. You don't say whether
or not his death was unexpected and it's irrelevant. No deaath is easy for those left behind who
cared to deal with. Please accept my sincere condolences and cyber-hugs. I hope you have many
happy memories of this young lad and if you have, that they will bring you r family comfort as you
grieve for him and joy when you think of him afterwards. I am glad that you decided not to drink to
mask the pain of losing him. It might have made for you your situation worse (I've done it in
similar circumstances and found that to be the case).

Your son's advice that you go on this camping trip is sound advice which I hope you will heed. As
you say, it will be hard but I'm sure that you will be able to get through it.. If you find
yourself thinking how your son's friend would have loved the trip, don't always be sad that he is
not there. Smile at how he would have behaved and how much he would have enjoyed himself. Knowing
him as you did, do you think he would prefer to see you sometimes smile when you remember him rather
than always look sad ?

Before I go, I would like to share with you a poem that has helped me and friends of mine cope in
the aftermath of the death of someone that we have dearly loved. I do so in the hope that it may
bring you some comfort:
