Hi. I'm new to this group and am not sure how to use it. Will I

Hi,
My name's JB. Welcome to ARAA. I hope that you'll find here the kind of help and support you're
looking for.
This group doesn't send out group e:mails. If you Google, you'll find many posts containing good
advice and some that don't :^))
I'm looking forward to the day when you decide to tell us more about yourself. In the meantime, I
wish you well.
JB
PS: BTW, I stopped drinking, "again" (<g>) on 10th June this year and I'm using this NG and AA to
stay stopped.

I've used both, and I feel I needed both too. I don't think I could've
come up with the initial 'trust' in the possibility of a meaningful,
sober life worth seeking for, without the fellowship. The fellowship,
the people with similar enough experiences in the past and now
seemingly content and sober was, I believe, a crucial part of my
initial recovery.

I think the keyword is 'trust'.

Fortunately for me, trusting untrustworthy AAers was a sobering experience.
"Hope" that by taking the 12 steps *I* may recover, was the key word for me.

You seemed to misunderstand me, Bob. By 'trust' I did not mean
trusting AAers, or any person, but trusting the possibility that I
might be able to achieve a sober, meaningful life worth achieving. The
idea of whether the steps would play any part in the action came a lot
later.
I suppose I coul've used 'hope', or 'faith' as well, but I chose to
use 'trust'. I'm not a native English speaker so it is quite possible
the word 'trust' cannot be used in the sense I did.

Kai, in the context of the AA program and/or the AA "fellowship," my post
was a sharing of my own experience, rather than a reflection on yours. With
reference to English usage in this context, hopefully correctly;-) I see a
significant difference between the certainty of trust, and the uncertainty
of hope.

What? Stop being so self-centered! ;-)

I see your point, and in this light agree 'hope' describes my feelings
better than 'trust', as it most certainly didn't feel like a
certainty. I had had my experiences of 'sober life'[0], you see, and
it was *not* something I wanted.
