From "Brothers in Our Defects":
"The identification that one alcoholic has with another
is mysterious, spiritual - almost incomprehensible. But
it is there. I 'feel' it. Today I feel that I can help
people and that they can help me.

"It is a new and exciting feeling for me to care for
someone; to care what they are feeling, hoping for,
praying for; to know their sadness, joy, horror, sorrow,
grief; to want to share those feelings so that someone
can have relief."

you clearly don't appreciate that fact that alcoholics are god's chosen
people.

Or, perhaps, truely incomprehensible. ;-)

You're saying that, in your opinion, alcoholics are "gods chosen
people". Add to that the fact that you work as an alcoholism counselor,
and we get a pretty nasty picture of a religious cult leader wannabe.

You're entitled to your opinion but it's a bit confusing. What about all
the non-alcoholics, are they not chosen by God and therefore must live in
the cold away from Him. No matter if they are members of recognised
religions. All those religious people of various faiths across the world,
abstaining from alcohol because they think that's what God wants them to do
and really all they need to do is join the party and get hammered. Pass
the meths and sing hallelujah, we have been chosen!

Or do you mean that it is the recovering alcoholics in AA who are chosen by
God? What about reformed alcoholics who don't go to AA? Are they still
chosen by God or does God only like alcoholics in AA? And if God has only
chosen alcoholics in AA, then does that make AA a religion?

Just interested.

With all the religious groups and various factions claiming to be God's
chosen people, wouldn't it be ironic to find out He's been using the
"eenie, meenie, minie, moe" method all these years? Or maybe "one
potato, two potato, three potato, four..."
