Keep It Simple

We feel that the elimination of our drinking is but a
beginning.---Alcoholics Anonymous
Giving up alcohol or other drugs is just the start. Even if we give up
chemicals, can we be happy if we have our old life back in every other way?
We have to do more. We have to see how our illness has changed us. To do
this, we turn to the Steps. Our program teaches us to become new persons. We
will change. And the changes will make us happy. That's the best part of
recovery---change.
Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, make me open to changes that will heal
me. Help see I'm not cured just because I stopped drinking or using drugs.
Action for the Day: Today, I'll chose one thing about myself I want to
change.

Today I'll change my attitude towards Prez Bush...I'll accept him as
our leader. Whenever I hear or come across someone downgrading him
I'll speak up even if it means I'll risk being locked up in the looney
bin!

Change is the best part of recovery? Maybe and maybe not. Change =
happy...is pretty sappy. I've gone thru plenty of changes in sobriety
that haven't made me happy. Some of them I see as necessary and accept
them, but they don't necessarily make me happy.

The best part of recovery for me is having peace of mind and a measure
of contentment....and that I can have happy or sad as fits the
occasion. There is those things I can't change and then there are
those things I can change recognizing them and acting accordingly
seems to me to be the gift the program gives me.

I didn't become a new person rather I discovered the person I am.

There is only so much happiness to go around. It's like a smörgåsbord.
You should have started earlier and got in front of me.

Mr. Happy

I tried but you were so swelled up with happiness I couldn't get
around your fat ass...I went back to the cashier with my empty plate
and bitched and moaned pointing in your general direction the whole
time as I jumped up & down as in having a fit and was rewarded with a
refund...could of had a raincheck instead, but took the cash and went
down the block and got a Happy Meal.

I remember it well. *That* day I really pigged out. I figured you
would head for McDonald's, and it gave me a sibling rival kind of
satisfaction.

I had been there, of course and the Happy Meal did nothing for me. I
even tried the "Cheddar McMelt" (affectionately called the "McCheddar")
but I was still unhappy *and* unaffectionate. I've switched party's and
am now a republican so I can't share my secrets (happiness theory is
like free market theory) but the legendary "bluebird" also knows the
secrets and will help you along if you can locate her.

You been to K-Pax too?

The happy thing about a double cheese burger at Micky-D's is you only
have to eat one of the nasty buns.

If you switched to republican there will be no more rosie days for
you! :)
