after taking care of a drunk from Eng for a year and half - he crashed
again - this tme blowing out the liver pancreas and having brain
damage. I know that I must wuit too - but I am saturated with mental
agony that seems to know no release. I doubt I will ever see him again
- his family blames me totally for this although it's beeen going on
for years. any positive thoughts for me out there?

#1. It's not your fault.
#2. Try to realize that, from the sounds of it, almost all of your
mental anguish is caused in some way or is otherwise related to
alcoholism, either your own or somebody else's.
#3. The only way to get rid of the mental anguish that is being caused
by alcohol is to quit the alcohol.
#4. Unfortunate though the circumstances, you have an advantage in
having seen first-hand what alcoholism does to a person. You are
allowing the same thing to happen to yourself if you don't take action
to quit. Your alcohol use affects other people.
I strongly suggest calling your doctor to let him or her know what's
up. Detox can be deadly in an alcoholic, and likely needs medical
supervision. If you have medical insurance, rehab would be nice...
it's not as scary as it sounds.
