REMOVING THREATS TO SOBRIETY
.. . . . except when to do so would injure them or others. . . .
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS , p. 59
Step Nine restores in me a feeling of belonging, not only to the
human race but also to the everyday world. First, the Step makes
me leave the safety of A.A., so that I may deal with non-A.A.
people "out there," on their terms. It is a frightening but
necessary action if I am to get back into life. Second, Step Nine
allows me to remove threats to my sobriety by healing past
relationships. Step Nine points the way to a more serene sobriety
by letting me clear away past wreckage, lest it bring me down.

These past 2 weeks i have gotton involved in a Begginers Group that
explains the Big Book more understandibly (too me anyway) and heavy
emphasis was highlightened around the ninth step, even suggesting that
if we do not make these ammends we will proceed to get drunk! Wow! In
the past i had always 'breezed over this step with a minimum of
concern' choosing instead to concentrate on 1,2 and 3. But today i see
that these steps ALL work together for the healing of my wounded.
dysfunctional self! I am just coming back from a relapse after more
than a years Sobriety and now find myself 2500 $$ in debt. It felt
good to make those payment checks out when i got paid instead of
ducking them (as we all have the option of doing!), even if i could
only pay below mimimun billing amount. The point is that i made my
payments to the best of my ability and by Gods grace i may be enebled
to do the dame next month! Personal apoligizes did not go as
smoothly. Broken trust between myself and those that love me only
STARTS with a verbal apoligy, for broken hearts take time to heal and
the only long term influence i can have on that healing process is to
keep myself in sound Spiritual shape, thus maintain Sobriety !
