I don't know what clancy means, I couldn't find it in the dictionary. I'm
kind of embarrassed I even posted this message. Just don't rag on me

sorry matt, my mistake.................CLANCY is a member of AA from
california, who has his own (successful) style, but it involves some
VERY RIDGED rules.
start going to AA regularly, find someone in your meetings that has
what you want, (in terms of sobriety etc) and ask them to sponsor
you............................
there are different styles...................
my original sponsor was a CLANCY CLONE and it worked just fine for me.
after about 10yrs though, i needed something different and changed
sponsors.
eleven years later my second sponsor and i are still working together.
in 21yrs of continuous sobriety i have not really been without the
guidance of a sponsor.
it works for me.

Ah, Matt....Rosie just has constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the
mouth. Ignore her.
Sponsorship is a term that dates back to the late 30's where a wet drunk
couldn't be admitted to a hospital to "dry out", unless some sober
alchoholic agreed to "sponsor" him, meaning standing ready to absorb the
medical bills. Sort of like some of the more recent immigration deals,
where an immigrant had to have a "sponsor" to guarantee a place to live and
employment before the INS would issue the visa.
In AA it shouldn't mean much more than one AA who has worked the steps
helping another who hasn't. Often times it devolves into nonsense like you
illustrated. It shouldn't. Consider a sponsor as a mentor or tutor in
recovery, not as a banker or therapist. You aren't anybody's slave and if
you have any idea that your current sponsor would take advantage of you, go
find somebody else. Sponsors have clay feet, too.
I asked my sponsor to help me go through the steps, because I could tell
from his actions and words that he had done them and had something I needed.
As it turns out, he and I have become best friends. That's a bonus. I
would have been happy to have had him just spend a few hours with me
explaining how he did what he did and what happened. But about the first
time he "suggested" that I should come over and clean out his gutters would
have been the end of it. ;>)

That would be because the newcomer knows he doesn't know anything. Your
drivel clearly displays that you don't have a clue, yet you have an answer
for everybody and every situation.
I wasn't aware that calling a pompous blabbermouth on her shit was "drunken
behavior". Seems more like rigorous honesty to me.

Clancy I is a world-famous AA speaker based in California. He founded
what is arguably the world's biggest AA group, the Pacific Group. I
found his tapes/CDs quite inspirational, particularly on Step 1 which
seems so misunderstood. They're worth a listen. However I would not
have been able to deal with him as a sponsor, he's a "controlling"
type sponsor and his group size seems more a reflection of his own ego
than anything else. People like Clancy can be excellent for those in
early recovery who are struggling to otherwise stay off the sauce. We
had one or two like that in the area where I sobered up. However,
most sponsees move on from that relationship.
So it's a case of "take what you want and leave the rest".

Rosie would do well to take some of her own advice.

Shut up already, you selfish bastard! It should be clear to you by now, that
your best bet is to kick your sponsor and do any and everything both Rosie and
Moonraker tell you to. As you've seen in this thread, they've clearly reached
the level of spirituality one needs in order to become a good sponsor.
NOT!

I think that any one arriving here expecting to only find help to overcome their drinking problem,
would soon spot the difference :^)) You've made me wonder whether any such people exist :^))

Kai, I think what I've just doesn't make any sense. If it doesn't make sense to you, I'll have
cause to think that I've not given sufficent thought to your question.

You think someone'd go to Jerry Springer Show to only find help? Same here,
different characters but the stuff that gets hurled around, that's definitely
same.

Don't take me too seriously. My 'question' was an attempt at humour. You said
Matt might think he's not in ARAA but in Jerry Springer Show <shudder> and I was
just sort of making a joke of whether there's any real difference between the
two.
