Daily Reflections

A PRAYER FOR ALL SEASONS

God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change.
Courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the
difference.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 125

The power of this prayer is overwhelming in that its simple beauty
parallels the A.A. Fellowship. There are times when I get stuck while
reciting it, but if I examine the section which is troubling me, I find the
answer to my problem. The first time this happened I was scared, but
now I use it as a valuable tool. By accepting life as it is, I gain
serenity.
By taking action, I gain courage and I thank God for the ability to
distinguish between those situations I can work on, and those I must
turn over. All that I have now is a gift from God: my life, my
usefulness, my contentment, and this program. The serenity enables
me to continue walking forward.
Alcoholics Anonymous is the easier, softer way.

I realize it's only a word . . . . . . .

The original prayer is more like:

God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we SHOULD, And wisdom to know the
difference.

I take the program of Aloholics Anonymous VERY seriously. NOTHING could
be more serious, for without it - I am worser than dead. It took many,
many years of agony to discover, by having no choice but to live it,
that AA is quite simply doing about as precisely as I can, what they
did over 70 years ago that was written in the original manuscript.

That was eventually watered down, I believe to be more accessable or
palatable to people that didn't go as far down the scale as I did. It
then became the first 164 pages of The Book with the title of our
Program. It's very sad that you don't hear more about AA at "AA"
meetings. It just about killed me and has indeed killed many for us
whos lives may have been saved.

I CAN change my sobriety date by stopping doing what they did . . . . .
.. . that doesn't mean I SHOULD!

"SHOULDS" are for parents, preachers and politicians.

Generally speaking, in my experience, soon after one gets to the "VERY
seriously" stage with their beliefs is when they begin to see themselves
as authorities and begin to act in an authoritarian manner. At that
point they tend to be regarded as "preachers." In some cases, even
become same. Not all the sheep however, respond in a positive way, yet,
flocks are forged. And the beat goes on.

might pick up on it is one is kissing ass and one is kicking
ass..which might fit or not depending how you look at it or don't look

In other words, it's rewarding to cuss every now and then.
Or.. Cussing occasionally has its rewards...

But have you won any awards for your cussing?

Not sure about that...the judge gave me a coupon good for a year for
45days free lodging if I felt the need to redeem it.

Even drunk one should refrain from sugar tits...that could lead to a
cellie named bubba and his sweet dick....plus his reservation was
already confirmed before he got to "sugar tits"....

seems authoritarian . . . . perhaps I am. I am sorry if you, or others,

(((<< THE >>))) message. Right. And THE prayer does not say "SHOULD."

"Preachers" likely would prefer "SHOULD" though. And what you personally
discovered has *nothing* to do with what I said. *What* you say, and
*how* you say it, might apply. Do you carry the message with an
