Having been diagnosed with chronic depression, then taken those steps
myself, it interests me that of two prolific Usenet posters engaged in the
"treatment industry" who claim the steps did not resolve their depression,
each display ignorance of the steps in inverse proportion to their
documented dependence on drugs.
One could expect a dozen different folk to tread a path and depict
contradictory scenery. However, at least some aspects would presumably be
recognisable to all who had thoroughly taken those steps.

Dysthymia is a milder, chronic form of depression. It may periodically have
episodes of major depression superimposed upon it. When this occurs, it is
known as "double depression".

Study Finds Psychotherapy and Anti-Depressants Equally Effective in Treating
Severely Depressed Primary-Care Patients
WASHINGTON - Researchers comparing the effectiveness of treating major
depression with either antidepressant medication or psychotherapy noted no
difference in the success of the two treatment methods after an eight-month
clinical investigation.

just conduct yourself better this time.

First thing, RRAP....you need to work on your reading comprehension. I
don't think Mister BM (Blue Moon) has weighed in on this topic, at least not
today. If you are going to argue...at least know who you are spouting off
to.
My point is this, and nothing more. Read it and re-read it until it sinks
in. OK? Here goes. Ready?
"NOT INGESTING A DEPRESSANT ( e.g., ALCOHOL) IS QUITE LIKELY TO ELEVATE
"XXXXX" DRUNK'S MOOD SUFFICENTLY SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT REQUIRE
ANTI-DEPRESSANTS" Period. Got it?
Not "every" drunk, just that "XXXX" equals "many", "most", " a lot",
"some", or "in general". Enough to make the point valid. It was for sure
totally accurate in MY particular case, and in the case of almost all of my
friends and sponsees. If you feel the need to argue with "that", God help
you. I know it's just common sense, so it may have escaped you earlier.
Nearly everybody who posts here understands that "some" folks need AD's.
The question is: Can an accurate diagnosis be made while that person is
still drinking? It seems that everybody but YOU thinks any medical
diagnosis of psych problems needs to be made subsequent to removal of the
external ingested depressants. Is this too hard for you to comprehend?
Throwing meds at a depression that may or may not exist or may even go away
on it's own in a few weeks is apparently what you support?
Your projection tendencies are showing. I never "pretended" to have a
medical degree. I never said anything that would have made anybody think
otherwise. Does the fact that I made a purely common sense observation
about removing a depressant from a drunk somehow threaten your
self-appointed exalted position as the group's medical guru? You need to
get over yourself.
McGregor's needle getting a bit sharp, eh? Try not to take it out on
ME.......OK?

Rosie,
I think moonraker means he agrees with you. Some need meds, but those whose
depression is caused solely by alcohol and the results of ingesting it do
not.
Bob's snips certainly apply to situational depression, where meds should
only be taken, if ever, on a short term basis.

i have answered, over and over questions from those who choose to attack me with false accusations about my use of
antidepressants and my sobriety.
instead of continuing to participate in that insanity and clutter this newsgroup up with senseless ego tripping, i chose
to stop trying.

Heh. here we go with our projection issues again. I'm not the one that
requires anti depressants and GOK what else to function. I'm far from

Yep. And you don't see why, do you?
Here's a perfect example of your unbridled arrogance. You are so self
absorbed and full of yourself that you can't see it?
What you said in effect was, " Don't talk to me unless you have been sober
as long as I have."
You don't see that? ...it's a rather myopic view when your head's up your
butt, so maybe not.
> ROTFLMAO!
And to "ROTFLMFAO" just underscores your arrogance.

And you don't see "your" part in any of it? It's damn funny you are the
ONLY poster in these parts who regularly gets called on her bullshit.
Your arrogance is exceeded only by your ......aw, hell. Nothing exceeds
your arrogance.
Everything that gets posted by the "few" is either, in your view, "crap" or
is met with your snotty, derisive "ROTFLAMFO". Nobody knows nuttin but
RRAP. I feel sorry for your husband...living with you must be a real cross
to bear.
My sponsor reminds me that everybody serves a purpose. Your purpose is to
remind me just what it is that I don't want to become in sobriety. Stick
around, though. I need a bad example to avoid. Wet drunks in beginner's
meetings remind me where I was, and you remind me where I don't want to go.

Rosie, is the JB to whom you refer Johnathan Bratt ?. If it is, may I again, politely ask you to
stop calling him JB. Earlier in this thread, Blue Moon got upset, quite rightly imo, when you
confused him with Moonraker. I am equally upset to be confused with Johnathan.

Actually, JB, I didn't even realize there WAS a confusion. I saw your

attempting to create any confusion.

BM,
i have answered your questions over and over.
however, you read what you want, and you believe what you want.
the above quote is a perfect example!
NO ONE has endorsed antidepressants as a solution to alcoholism, but you persist in repeating this fallacy.

Really?
What about those who you apparently perceived as attacking, whereas in
reality they were simply asking specific questions?
Such as ... if you have a chemical imbalance, how is that imbalance
tested? Or ... if someone has drugs which address a chemical
imbalance, why is it that the imbalance is so much less stable than
those not on such drugs (to the extent that the balance must undergo
further correction with different drugs on a regular basis)?
Of course, I would like to acknowledge that the questions themselves
are irrelevant to this newsgroup in every respect. I just wish people
would stop endorsing ADs as some kind of solution to alcoholism, 'cos
they ain't.

No you haven't. If my newsreader missed it, I owe an apology, but
meanwhile I'd love to know ... just where and when did you answer "if
you have a chemical imbalance, how is that imbalance tested?" ?? Or,
where and when did you answer "if someone has drugs which address a
chemical imbalance, why is it that the imbalance is so much less
stable than those not on such drugs (to the extent that the balance
must undergo further correction with different drugs on a regular
basis)?"??
You really should either put up or shut up, but quit pretending you've
answered something when you haven't.
>however, you read what you want, and you believe what you want.
I'll not always read what I believe, that's for sure. If I did, I'd
be going round the twist with this newsgroup! But I do know I've not
seen you respond to any of those questions, despite your false claim
that you have.
>NO ONE has endorsed antidepressants as a solution to alcoholism, but you persist in repeating this fallacy.
Have you, or have you not, pushed the notion of people going to their
doctor for depression pills just days after they quit abusing a
depressant, yet when the subject of recovery arises you become more
wooly about what people should do?
