antabus

[Vermin]

Just Started with 250 mg at 5 PM..........now I'm getting
paranoid.....of anything that may have alcohol....

My friend passed out and left a beer can on the floor......sight of
that can raised my hair straight up !

Now pickles have me suspicious....Claussen halves in vinegar....lurking
in the fridge !

Is that fermented and make me sicker than a dog ?

Can I use Tabasco ? What about Ketchup ?

Please give me some assurances, if anyone can !

I just got out of a 5 day detox yesterday (only the 3rd time in 9 mos)
.....it was good to see all the nurses I knew by name.

It wasn't too good going in the Mental Hospital last Thurs....I drank a
750 ML carrypack of Vodka (Aristocrat of course) in about an hour and
measured .32 blood alcohol.....after I passed out on the floor in ER.

But some good doses of Phenobarb........I stopped shaking after about 2
days...not bad.

While people are different, I never had a reaction to any "product" that
contained minute traces of alcohol and pickles never bothered me. For
someone serious about quitting Antabuse can be a great tool. It certainly
helped me at a time when I seemed not to be able to stay stopped any other
way. Be careful about finding "problems" with taking antabuse. Many times
our addiction can find problems with using tools that will help us beat
it. Just the nature of the beast. I don't think eating a pickle would
bother you a bit it didn't me. Now getting pickled, that is a different
story.

Antabuse worked pretty good for me a few times. Don't exceed
250mg because Antabuse is rough on the liver and kidneys and
isn't recommended for long-term use.

I just got back from giving blood at the Doc's office....I told the lab
lady I was on anabuse....no alcohol swabbing.....she did it anyway !

I about s**t !

She gave me the papers to check out then said she was going to tell the
Doc......I waited a few mins....was light headed but that was probably
due to Buspars kicking in I took this Am...



So far no skin reaction...........feel ok....except a bloating in the
abdomen....and itching I've had since last nite.

noticed my lower lip is swelled a little and I was having stomach
pains...looked at the shampoo bottle and it has 2 kinds of
alcohol......didn't even look at it.....stomach is better now....

What are the possible side effects of disulfiram?
• Severe and sometimes fatal liver problems have occurred in
patients taking disulfiram even without a prior history of liver
problems.
• If you experience any of the following serious side effects,
stop taking disulfiram and seek emergency medical attention:
· an allergic reaction (swelling of your lips, tongue, or
face; shortness of breath; closing of your throat; or hives);
· seizures;
· extreme tiredness;
· dark urine;
· yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice);
· large appetite changes;
· weakness, dizziness or loss of coordination; or
· severe diarrhea or vomiting.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur.
Continue to take disulfiram and talk to your doctor if you experience
· skin rash or acne;
· mild headaches;
· mild drowsiness or tiredness;
· impotence;
· metallic taste in the mouth; or
· swollen or sore tongue.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur.
Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that
is especially bothersome.




What other drugs will affect disulfiram?
• Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are
taking any of the following medicines:
· isoniazid (Nydrazid);
· a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as
isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine
(Parnate);
· a benzodiazepine such as diazepam (Valium), alprazolam
(Xanax), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), clorazepate (Tranxene),
temazepam (Restoril), triazolam (Halcion), and others;
· a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline
(Elavil), imipramine (Tofranil), doxepin (Sinequan), nortriptyline
(Pamelor), and others;
· warfarin (Coumadin);
· metronidazole (Flagyl);
· theophylline (Theo-Dur);
· phenytoin (Dilantin);
· lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others).
• Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with
disulfiram. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any
prescription or over-the-counter medicines including vitamins,
minerals, and herbal products.

I'm committed to taking the Antabuse.....at least the choice has been
made for me for the next 2 weeks..but I mean...lips swelling and sharp
stomach pains on and off for 4 hours......I just never had those
symptoms until I started. I'm ok now. I can take it !

I see the shrink tomorrow that put me on this program Tues...the day I
got out of detox.....see what he has to say about all this !

Next time you have to go on Antabuse, 4 hours after your
first dose, drink half of a lite beer and see what happens.

Folks,

During the past 2 days I have eaten every sauce and condiment
(including a good dose of Tabasco this afternoon on a piece of Pizza)
and none had any effect on me. This included alot of vinegar packed
products. Good to go as far as eating !

A pint of Vodka sounds good right now.....but I'll just rely on some
good ole personal non-prescription meds !

That's actually one of the things that helped me from staying away from
those places. I now know that if I ever drink that way again, I'm just
gonna stay home and detox or die. I don't plan on doing that.

Tried antabuse one time, didn't work for me. Led to me trying to
overdose and end my life, partly because I wanted to feel some physical
pain. Of course, the antabuse was from somebody else, don't know
whether it had any potency left.

Yes please share... I had Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream the other
night and got so sick I can't even stand the thought of Ice Cream
anymore!!!! It's just not right to be punished for eating ice cream!!

I'll tell you though even though I only take the Antabuse when I know I'm
going to be in a "slippery" situation... I just don't even want to eat
anything when I take it... I think I'd rather starve and get dehydrated than
to have that awful sick feeling...

Antabuse is a great deterrant if you use it!
