I thought Rehab was meant for people who had very recently given up drinking
but today i was told by my doctor that she is referring me to rehab because
of a few emotional and mental problems left over that won't go away. Mind
you they did say giving up is no picnic.

They'll never go away. How do you get the time off work? I'd like to tag
along!!

Referral to rehabilitation seems to be the preferred choice of the
"treatment industry," for those who have *never* been habilitated.

Apparently it's going to take a little time for the doctor to get it
organised.

Then it's not rehabilitation but habilitation. :)

Medical leave. If you have mental health coverage they pay for it.
Since it is recognized as a AMA as a disease, your employee
simply knows your gone. They don't even have the right to
know why.

They will never go away ? Rehab prepares for a
much better life, It gives tools to work with.

"Our Primary goal is to help others *Recover* from Alcoholism".
No where in the book does it say consisent recovery.

Good luck.
It is kind of stessful at first , but
it works ! You will come out a
mucj better person. Very few
show up at a hospital for 5 weeks
because it is fun.

Be sure to tack on 2 weeks more medical leave
time after you get out . Your likely
go into to a extended care out reach
prgram for a couple weeks, and your
certainly like the new *you* .

Again: your employer simply knows
your on leave. They don't have to know
why.

Hello, once again, Darren,

I, too, have a dual disorder of chemical dependency and a mental
illness. The last treatment program I was in addressed the two
co-existing illnesses. The bottom line is that both are no-fault
illnesses. You are not alone, my friend. There are a lot of us out
there just like you and I. There is a wonderful 12-Step support group
called Dual Recovery Anonymous that can be found @
http://www.draonline.org/. It is an excellent compliment to AA.

I wish you well, Darren. May God bless you and your loved ones.

Ted

Music isn't a drug, music is therapy and surfing (I assume you mean sea
surfing and not web surfing) is a rush. :)

The doctor has recommended me for it but it takes time to go through but i'm
more than willing because things can't go on like this.

I'm not working at the minute. TBH my last job fell to the floor resulting
in all of us redundent and me suffering a nervous breakdown. I've not worked
since. something has to change. I have to stop being so scared.

For me music and wave surfing are drugs but without many of the
harmful effects of chemical substance.

ie: stress relief, exercise, conditioning, tranquility, elation,
natural sleep, etc, etc.

drawbacks are;
surfing; injury sunburn dehydration hypothermia
music; electrical shock if you amp is not grounded, falling off the
stage, being attacked by groupies

You must in in Europe if your a "redundent " person.
In the states the polically correct term is "down sized",
out sourced or "re-organalized". Layoff are the things of the past.

I would say getting groped by groupies is definately not a drawback. :)

whatever the terminology the results are still the same. sacked because of
someone elses incompetence. this happened to me three times in 5 years.
that's enough to fuck anyone up
