Daily Reflections

RIGOROUS HONESTY

Who wishes to be rigorously honest and tolerant?
Who wants to confess his faults to another and make
restitution for harm done? Who cares anything about
a Higher Power, let alone meditation and prayer?
Who wants to sacrifice time and energy in trying to
carry A.A.'s message to the next sufferer? No, the
average alcoholic, self-centered in the extreme,
doesn't care for this prospect - unless he has to
do these things in order to stay alive himself.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 24

I am an alcoholic. If I drink I will die. My, what
power, energy, and emotion this simple statement
generates in me! But it's really all I need to know
for today. Am I willing to stay alive today? Am I
willing to stay sober today? Am I willing to ask for
help and am I willing to be a help to another suffering
alcoholic today? Have I discovered the fatal nature of
my situation? What must I do, today, to stay sober?

First I have to wake up, then fall to my knees as I reach under the
bed for my slippers, trot down the hall to the shitter and take my
place on the throne as I read the grapevine, then hop into the shower
and sing the lords prayer several times as I soap up and rinse off.

Next it's back to the bedroom, getting dressed for the day and of
course putting those slippers back under the bed. Taking the BB off
the nightstand I then head for the kitchen where I grab a cup of
coffee, sit at the table with coffee, BB, and my 1st cig of the day.

Off I go, hitting a morning aa meeting, then on to work. Making sure I
practice all the P's in my honest effort to give my employer a days
work for a days pay. Of course hitting a noon aa meeting is a must,
yes there are a few musts here & there, this noon meeting by prior
arrangement with my employer is of course on my own time..not his...to
avoid being paid for what has so freely been given to me.

At home once again, I have to clean up and then call my sponsor,
sharing with him the days events and get my grade for the day. Then I
check the meeting schedule and decide which evening meeting to attend,
depending on which one I chose, is which newcomer I call to inform
them what I time I will be by to pick them up. After the meeting it's
off to the coffee shop for the meeting after the meeting and the
golden time to impress and educate the newcomer I have chosen this
evening to be my sidekick.

Home once again, I have my best and last cig for the day, prepare for
bed, do a spot check inventory, then open the BB for a 15 minute read
before I turn the reading light off and peacefully drift off to sleep!

Of course none of the above is actually done because after all is said
and done all I have to do today to stay sober is not put the shit in
my mouth!

Lol! Excellant Tom.I totally agree. To stay sober for today I just don;t
drink. I have to admit though I say my morning prayers every day and try
and make at least three meetings a week. I call a couple of AA buddys every
couple of days just to yack. Keeping it simple I guess works for me.Oh yes,
and lots of coffee.
