i was functional (and happy) partier for over 30 years. 6 months ago the
dam burst. i quit my job, spent my life savings, alienated all my
friends and family, stopped maintaining my environment, don't wash
clothes or body, and spend all day in bed drinking whiskey and smoking
cigarettes, the only thoughts that occupy my mind are those that deal
with my death, and the most efficient way to accomplish it.
if anyone out there has a clue on how to advert this impending tragedy
(i am worth saving), please speak now, or forever hold your peace!

I would suggest you see a doctor and tell him exactly what you just told us.
If you are suicidal you need serious help and a doctor can find help for
you. Please seek help from one.
Best,
Gail
Hi Ant
Your position is as close as anything to mine just before I stopped
drinking. I have had 15 very happy years since. Life is good to me. May I
suggest that you did what I did and that was that I went to AA on the 4'th
of April 1989.
This thing needs a bit of trust in that you will probably not be able to SEE
the solution right now. (Otherwise you would have done it.)
I pray that you will trust me
Kind regards
Mias
P.S. Before stopping I tried to commit suicide, was confined to a state
mental institution because of that, woke up in a police cell for Drunk and
Disorderly, Drove drunk, lived drunk, slept drunk. Life was one long
miserable, sweatty, fear-filled and anxiety driven dark clammy hell. That,
in a nutshell, is a VERY brief synopsis.

Maybe you will pass out with a lit cigarette and burn to death in your
bed.You wouldn't be the first guy to accomplish that.
