View Full Version : Good to be sober

Mias
10-31-2004, 12:35 AM
Hi all
Thought I would just report that the sober life is real good! A few good
things have happened to us this past few weeks. Things that would not have
happened had we kept on drinking 15 years ago. (We, wife and myself, would
have been dead) I find it more and more difficult not to cry when good
things happen to me despite me. The anonymity part helps a bit because if
one does not talk about it then it is not so bad.
Thank you for having been there, being here and still going to be here for
me.
I am grateful
Mias
15 years clean and sober and enjoying every second of it!

Hi Craig
My wife is six months behind me and I discovered very early in our
relationship that we can have informal meetings and discuss problems but for
sanity sake it is far far far far better to have external sponsors. I would
say do not even think of going down that road.
We give each other a lot of courage and hope and support though and I would
not change my alcoholic wife for anything!
We also try to do a meeting every Monday night. Keeps one firmly grounded.
Kind regards
Mias

Hi Scott
We were drinking separately (She has never seen me drunk, thank God!) I
finished on about two bottles of Brandy or Whisky or Vodka or Cane a day and
she was building up to one when the carpet got pulled out. Funny thing was
that the day that I decided to inform her that I am coming to be an integral
part of her life we had just both finished giving all our stuff away save
our cars and clothes. It was a bit like somebody up there was saying OK, you
two can start nice and fresh)
We had a bit of a difference of opinion after two years and then we spent a
year apart and since then we have 'grown up". I believe it is a bit odd two
have two sober alcoholics married for a period. God is good to us.
Kind regards
Mias

That's nice. And that's a lot of booze! I know this guy and his
wife up here who have been trying to straighten up for years
but neither one of them are very intelligent and the slightest
little upset or shakes sends them right back into the booze. ..
in and out of hospital all the time.

That sounds really good. Many people tell me to get a sponsor, but the
couple of people who have offered after the meeting seem to be charging more
than I can afford, what with the fines I have to pay off, the alimony and
the child support. Feels like I barely have enough for Ramen noodles some
weeks. How much should somebody have to pay their sponsor? Or does it vary
in different parts of the country - you know, what the market can bear?

This is a joke right? Your being facetious right?
Pay money to a sponsor?
My sponsor wants more then money, but he doesn't even expect me to feed the
plate at the meeting.
Ramen noodles are one of the basic food groups, did you know you can even
make soup out of them?

Hi Craig
If you are talking about an AA sponsor being paid for you are being ripped
of big time. Are you perhaps referring to psychologists or counselers?
Do me a favour and ask this question in your meeting and see the response!

I asked in the meeting tonight and they told me that it should be covered by
my insurance and not to worry about it right now - that the most important
thing for me to worry about is staying off crack - but I'm not sure what
insurance they are talking about since I qualify for a medical card now.
They wanted me to sign something but I was a little leery of the fine print.
So I guess back to my original question - if something should happen that
this "insurance" doesn't cover the sponsor fees, how much should I
realistically have to pay a sponsor to teach me about the steps and how to
stay off dope and stuff?

Say Craig
Since I moved out of Brooklyn and live in Colorado now I don't really need
that old bridge that I inherited from the family any more. I mean ya know
the tolls are good but it's all brick and the up keep is a real revenue
drain (for me that is, it wouldn't be for you). I can cut ya a real
deal--let it go for wholesale.

Um, okey John Droge - I'm not sure what you mean about this - I guess you
are talking about burning bridges - yeah, I understand about that stuff
especially with my family who is all used up and my wife left me - that
bridge was completely burned down.

Hey Craig
Have an almost spotless Radio tower in Paris going for a song. Would you be
interested? Can be used for a tourist attraction...
Please close your purse because I know of nobody that has paid their way to
sobriety. For myself, I paid good drinking money to see a psychologist once
a week for quite a while. It was on Wednesday afternoons and on Tuesdays I
started working out what sort of bull I would feed him. Could never tell him
the truth because 'they' would have locked me up and thrown the key away.
Good luck
Kind regards
Mias

That's Colonel Polyps, its more official.

Read my Polyps. My family did bongs with George Washington at Valley
Forge in 1777.

It was a little easier for me to quit drinking having secret service
agents following me around the country. They are even Cajun.
But I get the same response from people in the program than I do from
people out of the program. I just have less trouble from people out of
the program becuase I do not hang around people that SHOULD be in the
program.

There is no comparison of alcohol to marijuana. I experimented with
drugs while drinking and I find that cannabis makes one less bold than
alcohol. Call it intimidated or wise.
I'd rather be a live wise man than a dead fool.
I haven't found it necessary, and I DO mean NECESSARY to have a drink of
alkeehall since 1983.

I'm still trying to get this goddamned microchip out of my back that
George Bush and the secret service stuck there in 1982.

Hey man just make nondrinking your #1 priority. Don't watch the cans of
beer opening up and stay away from liquor stores. Run if you have to
pass one.

Wait a couple of years or decades if you got skeletons in your closet,
or microchips in your back.

You do not have to tell anybody about the hair or skin you find on your
bumper now. Just stop it.

Yes it does have to go away. And then it comes back.
Kinda like a roller coaster.

steal my freedom.
I can only hope for a civil war so I can legally kill traitors to the US
constitution.

I'm still trying to get this goddamned microchip out of my back that
George Bush and the secret service stuck there in 1982.

Sorry Ray, and as far as the evil Polyps I think we all agree that he is not
to be taken seriously and we should probably feel sorry for him and the
terrible state of his mind.

Yeah, some AA sponsors accept unpaid labour instead of "loans" that
are most unlikely to be paid back, while others apparantly fear their
ego trip would be jeapordised if they actually charge for their
helpless "help."
