View Full Version : Pluses & Negatives
Hi
I'm sat here feeling good, as i've done all my stressfull things & am
now into a bottle of red & some beers. I love it, even though my anxiety
would be helped if i stopped! I can't imagine life or what it would be like
if i didn't, at night drink!
My psycho/doc has told me to stop, but i say i don't want to, as
meeting with friends & any kind of social life in my area is drinking!
I once went to the pub & had an orange & everyone took the piss & 1
orange later, i thought, fuck this & bought beer & felt better!, i wanted to
drink beer from the start, i feel by stopping, i'm doing it for someone
else!
It has destroyed one relationship, my current gf is ok with it, but accepts
it's me, as i accept her with her kids! So we have an understanding!
I've spent time sober & feel good, only because my craving for alcohol
increases over time & i'm looking forward to my next drinking time! Not just
this, as i do enjoy the day with my gf & her kids without a drink, but i feel
better knowing i'll be having a drink, that night!
Anyone understand my scenario & can chat to!
Cheers
Gaz
I hear what you're saying. Your situation sounds like mine around 8 years. I
was in a drinking circle and couldn't escape. Atempts at drinking coke were
met with similar ribaldry. I took drastic action. I moved out of the area
and disassociated myself with my drinking buddies. This didn't immediately
have the desired effect. As I carried on drinking alone at home. But, in the
end, I sorted myself out and stopped altogether.
For me, the bottom line is that I'm incapable of going out to the pub,
socialising and not drinking. So, I've cut off that avenue. Nowadays, I do
things like going to AA meetings, going to football matches and watching
DVD's. Pretty boring, I know. But, it's a hell of a lot better than my life
when I was drinking.

Yeah, that's basically the problem all right.

That's why the basic rule for starting sobriety is "different people,
different places, different things."

Friend, there is no balance there. Being a drunk is a flaw. Having kids is
not a flaw. Being a lush is not balanced out by having kids.
> Anyone understand my scenario & can chat to!
This is a place where you can find sympathy. This is a place where you can
find empathy. This is a place where you can find help. This is a place
where you can find guidance.
This is not a place where you are likely to find people ready to chat
joyfully about how great it is to get pissed every night.
Thanks
Hmmm, moving out of the area us what i'm kinda doing, as i live
at my gf's at weekends & never see my drinking buddies at all, hardly!
I do lots of things, running, using pc, cooking, football, but the drink
is always there!
My gf says that she accepts its' hard for me to get used to her kids & them
being around, this isn't a flaw, having them, just sje knows the difficulty
i have getting used to it.
I drink & have limits & only drink within limits, financially &
quantity, & she has a drink with me, but knows i drink more than her & i
don't fet pissed with her & very rarely get 'pissed' alone, very merry, but
not spuing blanking out pissd!

OK . Probably by doing that you could acquire a different lifestyle
to the one you claim to no longer want:

Cos wherever you go... there you are!

Who found out that the geographical cure amounted to harm reduction
for a few years, but nothing more.
I'll probably know the time to abstain 100%, not now, as life isn't too bad,
but thats cos i'm relatively happy, ok i'm on sick & have to wait for a
psychoanalytic course & a prerequisite is being on sick, but i have a gf &
am healthy, i do drink, but i could be in a worse situation, like Ken Bigle
was in Iraq!
