View Full Version : God, I hate loneliness

Dan McGown

If I sit here any longer, I will be tempted to ward off the loneliness with
ethanol self-medication. I believe that I will go to a meeting, a bookstore
and a movie.

I suspect the latter options would have the greater chance in actually
warding off loneliness :)

I recently discovered a bookstore when I was having a CD player fitted
in the car ... they even have cafe's now, so you can relax and enjoy a
coffee and a read without even leaving the store. Only trouble is,
they're not too close to where I live.

Why don't you play with some of the trolls.

Nah you do not want to do that. You want a big tit sticking in your
capitalist sucking mouth spurting alkeehall.

Actually, I lucked out. The meeting that I was going to drop into is held
in a pavilion by a lake and has been stopped since summer is over, so I was
heading back out when my son called and said that he didn't have a ride to
the highschool football game because his mother had gone out to dinner. So
I had an evening with my son. Much improvement over what I had planned.

Sometimes things arrange themselves. As br'er Hamlet said: "There is a
divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will."

JB,
A perceptive post. This morning I am making scratch pancakes with
chocolate chips, topped with melted butter and real maple syrup made by my
brother's neighbor. If you lived in Akron, I'd invite you over for a stack.

I buy bulk coffee beans and grind the little buggers up myself. I use Costa
Rican medium roast when I'm making coffee and usually go for a French roast
for espresso.

It's funny how we go from collecting wines to other things. I probably have
about a dozen different kinds of tea. LOL

ah glorious breakfast, shared huevos con chorizo today with a friend after
my usual Saturday morning meeting. (My Chicago Hispanic neighborhood). Today
I was reminded (and oh how I need reminding) that the easiest way out of my
own self-centered crap is to be there for others. I spent two hours with a
friend whose relapsed; wife's leaving him, job lay-off-the usual. Not sure
what benefit he received from our time together today, but damn I feel
great...and a little more worthwhile.

(oh, oh..the jalapenos are startin' to back-fire)

Steve,
There's a group that meets at one of the dry clubs around here and has
breakfast and then a meeting. With typical alkie humor they titled it as
the "Sunrise Meeting" -- it starts at 10:00. <g>

I think that sometimes the best that you can do for someody is just to be
there and breakfast is a great time to do it.

Good luck with those jalapenos. Moi, I prefer to break my fast in less
explosive fashion.

excuse me for butting in...
(displaying my political ignorance and at the risk of instigating
that poster with the iraq war problem)

what makes a Republic a republic?

and while I'm at it, how's the loneliness going?

did you develop any strategies to work on that?

for myself, I found that my loneliness was martyr behavior
(not that I'm implying yours is/was)
part of me *liked* feeling sorry for myself
it took me a very long time to come to terms with that- my kids
grew up and the grandiosity of being the *best worst* that ever lived
passed.

(that's my ESH, such as it is)
