Come here tomorrow. Tell us you're sober. If you're serious, you'll need
various kinds of help.

Drink and smoke up, SB. If you'll quit tomorrow you'll be sharing your
"birthday" (first day sober) with Bruce Springsteen (b.1949), the day
of Armenia's Independence from the Soviet Union (1991) and Roman
Emperor Augustus (b. 63BCE).

Off topic, mention of Special Brew (the beer, not the poster) brings
back many memories. You US-based alkies have been sorely denied that
particular European "beer of the gods" to quote a fan's website.

Coming in at a cool 9%ABV (if memory serves) it aims to please and
truly is the breakfast of champions. Not to mention lunch. And supper.

That stuff is *foul.*

Come on back, SB... y'hear?

Well that didn't go as planned, its 10.48am & I'm on my second can of
Special Brew. I hate being an alcoholic I kid myself that if I give up I won't
be able to have a pint with my friends down the pub, the truth is my friends
& family gave up on me a long time ago.

I go for three days without a drink, start to feel a bit better and drink
again.

My doctors given me some acamprosate tablets, I will defenatly take them
tomorrow.

And as for Special Brew, my poison of choice, I hate it, from the look the
guy gives you when you buy it to the horrible taste of the first can.

It is absolutely impossible to stop drinking "tomorrow." It is only
possible to stop drinking "today." If you tell yourself anything else, you
are lying to a willing audience. You might even convince yourself. You
might even convince yourself every single day until you die of it.
You won't however, convince anyone who has actually stopped drinking.
We all did it today. When you decide to quit drinking today, whatever day
that might be, there are many people who would like to help you do it.
There are drugs, there is counselling, there is AA, there are rehab centers
and if you are religious there is your church. If you wait until you start
getting DUIs or drunk and disorderlies, there is jail. Some of us have
dried out there. I know I did.
Until you decide to quit drinking today, whatever day that might be,
there is no one who can help you do it. Please consider quitting today.

As a follow up, I know that there are some of us who had to take into
account withdrawal and plan things in advance. I know that there also some
who had to do whatever was necessary to prepare themselves for introducing
anabuse into their systems.

I can't speak to those variations because I have no first hand knowledge. I
didn't go through that myself.

However, those variations don't change the fact that the decision to take
those steps and acting upon that decision are things that had to happen in
the "today." Today is all there is. Tomorrow still is a comforting but
deadly illusion.

Based on my experience I'd have to agree with the above comment. The closest
I came to stopping tomorrow was to promise myself I'd call AA in the
morning. Thankfully one of the few promises I kept.

Same thing I did around early August -announced to the world my drying-out
starting tomorrow, then celebrated my upcoming sobriety with another bottle
of wine. Needless to say, the plan lasted until the next morning.

Finally, a few attempts later, I was able to go through it. What helped
make that possible was I tapered off for a few days before stopping, and
tried to eat, and took liquid vitamins. The other approach, having one last
binge, only made the cravings worse the next day. Good luck!

Hello again, SB. I'm glad you came back. So you posted yesterday and
you didn't manage to follow through *this* time but you still posted
again today. And, not only that, you sound like you've got a pretty
good handle on what's going on.

You reminded me a lot of ME when you mentioned the look you sometimes
get when you buy your cans. I remember that well.

I used to shop around a few stores to try and avoid any one shopkeeper
measuring up my habit but I guess they all knew the score. You said it
yourself (in as many words, anyway...): that stuff ain't brewed for
anyone but alkies, everyone knows it, and no-one else but alkies
drinks it!

Here's something else that rang a bell. Three days off the sauce,
feeling a bit better, then off to the races again. With me (not
speaking for you, here) I'd be back on full-time, retching my guts up
every morning, not being able to eat, anxiety ripping outa me,
gastritis, shakes, and all the rest. Brutal.

I don't much about acamprosate (sp?) but I *am* a big supporter of
anyone who takes a drinking problem to a doctor. I respect that a lot,
in fact.

Check in again, SB, good luck tomorrow and follow the good doctor's
orders! ;-)

Yep, remember it well, and it doesn't get much worse than that. Well,
for some people, it actually gets a *lot* worse than that, but what
I'm saying is, I empathize. Based on my own experience I wouldn't be
at all surprised if you were wedging in cans here and there between
bathroom visits. My bathroom trash can was often full of bottles and
cans.

Look back in again soon, SB, always room for another alkie around
here.

We do have a product with the same name here, but it's a weak
fruit-flavored malt beverage with only 6% ABV.

But to appease the true alkie, we still have MD 20/20, a ghetto wine
cooler with 13% ABV that comes in a quart bottle.

Ah, MegaDeath 20/20, the global ghetto lubricant. OR is that WD-40?
They both do the job in a pinch, I'm sure.

Thanks anon. Working up a thirst here...

Dude! Welcome aboard. I'm not pushing this, just suggesting it, but
meetings really help and especially at the beginning.
Stay with it.
