Drank with great regularity for almost 25 years. Usually too much too often.
Today....three months sobriety. No urges....no desire to drink. Just fed up
with it. I also quit smoking 25 years ago the same way. I just said no.
Tried AA.....read Rational Recovery......I just don't want or care to drink.
Like smoking...it isn't worth it....it does nothing for me and that is IT!

Hi there,
Well done on three months. I felt exactly the same as you. I read a lot of
literature about alcoholism and that helped. But when I have my bad days I
come on here.

Funny how it is about us alkies JJ. The maost dangerous time for us is when
we are sober, because we are thinking....

About drinking...

Which is what you are doing now.....

One day, you might understand alcoholism, JJ. I hope that you do....

Irrespective of the spelling error, that proclamation is "not thinking"
exemplified, yet would merit applause in the AA environment. However, given
the vast majority of folk in that environment have not even claimed to have
recovered from the hopelessness of their condition, it should come as no
surprise.

When examining the pious anti intellectual evangelism of AA, Ernest Kurtz,
the first, (possibly only) non alcoholic academic granted access to AA
archives, even went as far as to claim in his book, Not-God A History Of
Alcoholics Anonymous. Page 192 "The roots of such manifestations of
apparently rootless anti-intellectualisms as Encounter marathons and EST.,
of the whole touchie-feelie fad in group dynamics, may be found in the
Evangelically Pietist perception of reality mediated to them by Alcoholics
Anonymous."

My experience of the 12 steps is that intensive thinking is implicit all the
way. Consequently, the scorn of thinking propagated in AA was of some
interest to me while I remained there. My conclusion is that the anti
thinking scorn is merely the hook from which the AA sponsor cult hang their
promotion of generally impotent co-dependence.

If one feels a need to allocate blame, surely it lies not in the act of
thinking, but in erroneous focus, (or lack of it) direction, attitude, and
consequential action.

The most dangerous time for this alcoholic was when I was drinking and *not*
thinking.

Jezuz, and you claim I am literary challenged. You boast of parading your
stupidity on the podium, however the vast majority just happens to include
the audience.

I have not noticed anyone here make the claims you specify in years. What is
your point?

hahahaha Sorry Stewart, I got it wrong, twice in a row! Not at all convinced
that JJ is an alcoholic anyway, I obviously hastened to press my own button
at my first *imagining* of anti thinking sentiments:(

Having just re-read through your original post, I regretfully concede I had
failed to scroll down properly, thus missing the full context of your claim
(reposted below) before I let fly, ..... Twice!

Whether or not JJ was thinking about drinking while posting here, I don't
believe either you nor I would be bothered debating.
