No problem. My bridge was/is still standing.

Think about this: what motive would I, or anybody else, have for
misleading you or giving you bad info? Those who have replied in this
thread are ones who have basically told you what worked for "them". And the
consensus is pretty strong. Nobody...nobody has ( or can) disputed the
answers you got to the questions you posed.

The BB says something to the effect that "alcoholics seldom respond to
frothy appeals". The point is, plain speaking and strong language is what
it takes for most drunks to take an honest look at themselves. And until
you are willing to admit to your innermost self that you are alcoholic,
it's doubtless that you'll see my, or any other sober alcoholic's honest
comments as anything but harsh. As you learned for yourself, whining and
banging on your high-chair doesn't go over real well at AA meetings.

It is never a good idea to ask an alcoholic "Honey, does this dress make
my ass look fat?"

Your life's situation, while not the best, doesn't make you unique, at
all. As Bobby L. said, "no points for martyrdom." You made, and continue
to make, the choices in your life. Not us.

FWIW, I, too, have a chronically ill spouse. It's just part of the "in
sickness and in health" part of things. Not a reason for me to go get
drunk.

The BB says "If you are as seriously alcoholic as we were, there are no
halfway measures" (or something to that effect. May not be an exact
quote.) So, IMO, those who would tell you to "take your time", "think
things through", "there are other ways", "moderation", "rationalization",
"accupuncture", or other such tripe are doing you a powerful dis-service.
Those ways "may" work, I don't know. I guess if they did, there'd be
somebody from one of those camps around here banging that drum, don'tcha
think?

So, if the plain, unvarnished truth is more than you can handle...probably
you should stop asking if the dress makes your ass look fat. "Somebody's"
gonna tell you what it looks like from their perspective. If the truth
hurts your feelings, I'm sorry. Would you rather be lied to, saving your
feelings, and continue to die a slow death? I'm sure you can find somebody
to do that.

You keep on asking your questions. Please know that the answers I give you
are not meant to be hateful or spiteful. If they are factually wrong, you
can bet somebody will correct me.

I suppose we need to re-write the Big Book to accomodate "your" approach to
things, eh? Still looking for that easier, softer way?

Then, why didn't you say that instead of chastising me for "preaching"?

What do you mean, "shame"? For figuring that I'm wasting my time and
effort trying to help you ? That's sure an interesting response.

Shame.

Just for for the record, I thought you gave a full and frank answer that's going to be very useful
to me. It gave a perspective on alcholism that I've never before had the opportunity to consider.
For this, I thank you.

Why post this when you were already ahead in the game ? Are you not smart enough to realise when

As I have no desire to get into further arguments with you Moonraker, I'm throwing in the towel rght

the beginning of "The Music Man":

"Peck a little, talk a little, peck a little, cheep cheep cheep, peck a lot,
