View Full Version : My First Wedding
My first wedding on Saturday since I've been sober. I was not feeling too
good as it reminded me of my failed marriage and it would have been our 27th
anniversary this week. Plus I gave up smoking two weeks ago and everyone in
sight seemed to be smoking for England. As you can imagine I was great
company.
Anyway, there was a free bar and everyone was queuing up like it was going
out of fashion and getting double this and double that. I had a few dances,
enjoyed the comedian who had been hired for the evening and managed to leave
around midnight just before the fights broke out. The next day, I got up in
the morning (a first) and spent a very pleasant day out in the sunshine
walking along a river bank before embarking on some much needed retail
therapy.
And people still ask me if I miss not drinking.

I went to my first wedding three weeks ago. I realized that the main
thing I liked about weddings was the free booze. I wasn't really
nervous about the temptation (the wedding was my 4 month date), but I
didn't know what to do while everyone else was partaking.
I ended up having a 'rockstar' energy drink
(http://www.rockstar69.com/ for those unfamiliar) and walking around
with my wife's camera taking pictures. It gave me something to do
during the cocktail poartion of the reception. Some of the pics
turned out pretty good, too.
The next day I felt great, just like Plug said. First morning after a
wedding without a raging hangover, and the contrast was stunning.

i use the camera trick also.
i take pictures and send the results to the bride and groom.
they ALWAYS enjoy them!
congrats on getting to 4 months! (almost five)

well done on getting through that, never easy to meet with a new social
occassion. I have had one family party so far but I didn't stay too long.
Congrats on the giving up smoking as well. I have also recently given up
and boy has it been a struggle. I went from 20 a day down to zilch.....cold
turkey. I tried the patches but they gave me a rash and I just could not
stand the gum. But I am over the worse now.
Funny thing is....when I was smoking I felt like a leper but now I have
given up the world seems full of smokers......sods law I guess.
