Hi guys,
I'm just posting to let you know that my resolve not to drink is currently weak Many times today I
have thought about going to the supermarket, buying some bottles of booze and drinking them until I
lose consciousness. I still feel like doing that.
The reason why I feel as I do is because of a letter I received in the post this morning. It
brought back painful memories of an injustice that was done to me a few months ago. It will need to
answered and answered very carefully. I've thought about nothing but this letter today and as a
result I've been angry and upset and worried all day.
I know it will do me no good to drink because if I do, I'll only end up with a terrible hang-over.
The problem of how to deal with the letter and painful memories will come back tomorrow. So, I'm
trying hard not to drink despite the fact that tonight, I desperately want the relief drinking would
bring.
If your resolve not to drink is as weak as mine is right now, I hope you won't give in. I hope I
don't give in. If you can get me through this guys, I'd be very grateful..

An injustice done to you? 8^) it's all the big book. that's a resentment.
Resentments are our number one danger. You are right, as long as you hold
those resentments, you will be in danger of drinking.
I know you are new here. Do you have a sponsor? at least someone to talk to?
You really need to get this off your back, and a trouble shared is a trouble
halved. right now you are trying to white knuckle it alone, and will power
is OK, but it is so much easier to let go, and let another person in.
That letter alone did not do anything to you. You did it to yourself. You
also have the power to start your day over again from this point on. Go do
something for someone else, and I bet your mood will improve more than
moping about the house dwelling on your problems.
Best wishes to you.

Hi there,
Many thanks for replying. I've read your post many times because it's such a help to have

So I am guessing that you aren't working any program. Just quitting
drinking, and hoping for the best. great, you are taking the first step
towards a better life. I chose AA and I don't regreat it. It has been a
rewarding experience.
The problem with just quitting drinking is that all the reasons for drinking
(like this letter) still remain. obviously I didn't start my drinking for
any reason other than to have fun and fit in. At the end, I had to drink to
sleep, the comittee in my head would keep me awake telling me how worthless
I was. So when i stopped drinking, the committee took over.

well that is why another sober person is a good choice. And someone that is
not related to you in any way. SOmeone anonymous is a good choice ;o) If I
only know you as JB, I really can't hurt you with your secrets. And if it
makes you feel better, no matter what you tell me, I probably have an
experience just as bad, and it would be my job to build your trust by
sharing them with you. That is the fifth step, if you have any experience
with AA.

So, you take what you read in a letter, replay it over and over in YOUR
head, it makes YOU sick, and probably blame the letter?
If it's a legal matter, give it to a lawyer, otherwise chuck it in the
trash.

Hi Stuart,
I know what I have done sounds crazy to you and probably to a lot of other people as well. I know
it's crazy behaviour and that's why I'm trying to change it but old habits die hard :^)) For now,
I hope you will celebrate with me the fact that I am about to go to bed without a drop of drink
inside me and in a far happier mood than I was when I posted my original message. Before I go, I
want to thank My Name, Shaw and the lovely lady who wrote to me privately for their helpful
messages. I'm convinced that it was you guys who turned my evening around. I'm very grateful for
this. Thank you.

Not too minimize the benefit of help, (I don't want to get no,
and don't deserve no swell head) but to give credit where credit
is do. IMO, the credit goes to you. _You_ decided not to any

Hi Rosie,
Sadly, I don't share your enthusiasm for AA. Past experience of being in an AA group and now, what
I read here and on the AA NG, has put me off joining it. Now, I am not rubbishing AA. I know it
is an excellent organisation and that an enormous number of people have benefitted frombeing members
of it. It may be Bill's writing style and also the manner in which some people promote his
teachings that puts me off joining it. One day, I might have the god sense to look beyond these
things. For now, I'm happy to be just a member of this group.

i am sorry, that any of our (A.R.A.A)behavior might deter you from finding the help that you MIGHT receive from being a
part of AA.
HOWEVER, not everyone goes to AA, ( not everyone in here is a member) in order to live a sober and serene life.

try the hula hoop excercise. drop a hula hoop on the ground. step into it.
everything inside the hoop is something you can control and everything
outside the hoop you can't. Now say the serenity prayer.
Other people's behavior is outside the hula hoop and can't be controlled.
All I can do is be the best me I can be. I appreciate that everone has
something to contribute to my life, and a lesson to teach me. No one person
is perfect, and no one person has everything that I want or need. When I am
rigorously honest, lose my ego in a situation, and let go, I can put God
first.
I learned a lesson from Bob, and Blue, Moonraker, Gail, Deb, and many others
here. I think the Prayer of Saint Francis applies to us here, and we each
take a line from it.

Rosie, you have a better memory than me. When I first joined this group I did mention that I had
also joined AA (again) and that I had started reading "Just for Today" and also the Big Book".
Subsequently I subscribed to alt.recovery.aa.
In the beginning, I had high hopes that AA would help me in the way it has helped so many others.
The fact that it hasn't yet been able to may be because I'm just not ready yet to accept what it has
to offer.

It's real interesting that you would choose to emphasise the word "MIGHT" in
your post.

path." He didn't say "might" or "maybe".....
Hi JB
Do not drink. One day at a time you will be able to do a lot more than just
answer one letter. That I CAN promise
Thinking of you
Kind regards

AA is not the right approach for everyone, so MIGHT is quite appropriate.

The idea of a sponsor is to DO everything the recovered individual
DID. That's just not possible with this group.

Not sure how much worse off you'd be not getting stuff dealt with, and
so eventually drinking on it.

If you had really falling asleep then you'd not be posting, so I
conclude that your post is just snooty attitude towards someone else
pointing out the truth.
