Wow, I just cannot believe how down I'm feeling these days. My job search is
going absolutley noplace, and it's effecting my sleep, and my overall state of
mind.

What are some things you guys do to "chill out" and try not to get so wound up
about things like this? I'm doing all I can to change my life. Staying sober
(number 1 priority!), sending out resumes like a madman, but still, it's all
going noplace in a hurry!

I feel like i'm just spinning my wheels here, basically wasted 10 years in
college, for a career that doesn't seem to exsist!

Just blowing off some steam.

Worth talking to your do about - mine has helped me tremendously. You
already sound like you're doing plenty of physical things - I have found
exercise - in my case via pool and gym - to be helpful in lifting my
spirits.

I also try and watch some comedy on tv/video before going to sleep -
maybe it's just me but a coupla episodes of the Golden Girls and I seem
to wake up in a better move.

Meditation/yoga/breathing exercise may help - there are a lot of
meditation tapes on the internet that can be used either during the day
to relax, or at night to get a deeply relaxed sleep

John - I hope that some of these may be of use.

Has it crossed your mind that maybe your HP has his/her/it's own plans
for your future ? Maybe they involve being paid for
compost/houseplants/gardening/ gardening advice ? :^)

Seriously, whatever your HP has in store for you , I don't think it's
a bad idea to keep sending out your resumes !

Wishing you all the best

thanks guy, it's just REALLY discouraging! I have a 3.83 GPA in chemistry and
physics. I worked my ASS off to maintain that, for all those years, just never
thought I would have such problems now?

Still, I guess, like the old song "keep on keepin' on" is about all I can do.

Thanks again
John

The job market is seriously depressed. More so than any politicians
seem willing to admit.

Not your fault, nor the fault of choices you made. It's just shit to
deal with, a day at a time.

Got a roof over your head and a loaf in the freezer? If so, then
compared with most people in 3rd world countries, and all people a
short century or two ago, you and I live like royalty.

Life just gets to be a "royal" pain in the ass, that's all :)

Oh yes, the democrats.... If they win the election, watch how quickly
the problem "improves" even if people remain unemployed. Policitians
in opposition parties are just looking for mud to sling, so will
complain about almost anything.

Good job. My major was accounting. Only did a 3.2. I always felt that
school proved 2 things:
1. Gave me a skill set
2. Showed that I was teachable (to some extent)

Maybe there will be something come up in a totally unrelated field that will
really make you happy. Maybe not.

Do your best to stay off the pity pot. Maintain a positive attitude-
potential employers like that. Doubling up on meetings helped me too. I
realized (through the stories of others) that I could go lower with the help
of a drink.

You've done yourself a great favor by posting about it. I'd spend some time
talking to my sponsor too (if you have one).

Something will come up. It may be humbling or enlightening or fulfilling-
maybe all of them. Stay busy and active before it comes around. You won't
have the free time opportunity as much when the job starts.

BM,
how long have you been in this country?

do you remember the deficit we had when bill clinton was elected?

in four years, he cut it in half, and in four more years, he left
this country with its largest surplus..........................
you are correct about about political parties looking for mud to
sling, but in BUSH's case its quite
simple.........................in the past four years this country
has gone to "hell in a hand basket".......................read, and
then vote!

No.

But I do know that in the UK the stock market does its own thing, and
yet whatever government happens to be in power is keen to take any
credit when things go good, and apportion blame to their predecessors
when they don't.

Not sure if I'm eligible to vote. But if I were, I'd never vote for
Bush. The stealing of the election results in Florida was an
international joke.

However, I couldn't help but feel it was a good thing. For a long
time, America (under both Republicans and Democrats) had been stomping
around the world as a self-appointed policeman trying to impose
"democracy" everywhere, whilst demonstrably failing to live up to its
own ideals back home. Since that election result, American and UK
foreign policy has shifted slightly to invading countries for no good
reason and bombing whole regions whilst failing utterly to land one on
the one bloke they were trying to hit.

Try to remember "this too shall pass ..."

It could be you are staring at one door so hard, waiting for it to open, you
haven't noticed other open doors in the corridor?

Good luck, my dear,

A lot of things in life are gray, but employed/unemployed doesn't seem
to be one of them. I hope you don't feel so desperate that you settle
for less than you want/deserve. The upshot is that ultimately, you
*will* be employed; bet on it. It's just one of those "why is it always
the last thing I try that succeeds?" deals.

And hey, make good use of the downtime. Don't neglect the necessary
footwork duties, but also do stuff you can't do when you're employed.
Go to the library, get a good book, make a picnic basket, go to a nice
park, and read the whole damn thing in one day. Work is overrated
anyway.. ;)
