: This is the tricky area - the preamble says "AA is not allied with
any sect,
: denomination, politics or institution; does not wish to engage in
any
: controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes." But what
that refers
: to is AA itself - of course it would be great if individuals were
perfect at
: reflecting that idea in their shares (but its like that
commercial, we don't
: live in Perfect). That's why most AA meetings (at least the ones
I have
: been to) have somewhere in the format the reminder that what has
been said
: in the meeting is strictly someone's opinion and not that of AA.
I live in
: a "bible belt" area - so sometimes I feel like I'm in someone
else's church
: all of a sudden, but I am not responsible for someone else's
share. We had
: one particular group where we ran into problems like this, but
there were so
: many other issues going on in that group that people were no
longer coming,
: except for the "strongly opinionated" few and some stubborn cases
who wanted
: to try to keep the meeting alive. Eventually, another meeting was
started.
:
: All you need is a coffee pot and a resentment to motivate someone
to start a
: new meeting. That's how meetings get started. (at least that's
been my
: experience). People can get into all sorts of discussions about
the
: "quality" of someone else's share or content of it, and that is
usually
: coupled with discussions of that persons quality and quantity of
sobriety.
: Not for me to judge. I have a choice as to how I handle what
other people
: do or say, and that is the only thing I can work on.
:
: Principles over personalities.

Alcoholics Anonymous Traditions. For our group purpose there is but
one ultimate authority a loving God as He may express Himself in our
group conscience.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=religion
re·li·gion Pronunciation Key (r-ljn) n. Belief in and reverence for
a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the
universe.

"We give thanks to our Heavenly Father, who, through so many
friends and through so many means and channels, has allowed us to
construct this wonderful edifice of the spirit in which we are now
dwelling. It seems as though He had directed us to construct this
cathedral whose foundations already rest upon the corners of the
earth. On its great floor we have inscribed our Twelve Steps of
recovery. On the side walls, the buttresses of the A.A. Traditions
have been set in place to contain us in unity for as long as God may
will it so. Eager hearts & hands have lifted the spire of our
cathedral into its place. That spire bears the name of service. May it
ever point straight upward toward God." ..... Bill Wilson

My comments reflect my understanding of Step 3 and also my belief that
no matter what God anyone else believes in, their belief only disturbs
my peace of mind if I allow it to. If you think that your peace of
mind is disturbed when someone talks about how their God and maybe
Jesus is helping them to recover from their alcoholism, IMO, you must
deal with that in whatever way seems appropriate to you. In the hope
of avoiding any misunderstanding, I need to say that what I've just
said was an attempt to state what I think are facts.

Another spectacular example of the AA sponsor cult.

Rosie, clearly not having a clue what the AA message is actually
supposed to be, passing on her very own prejudice instead.
