Re: personality traits
hey 94 proof, I'd like to know how often you are "sober" and "perfectly
capable"? seems to me, maybe you AREN'T perfectly cabable (of restraint or control that is) Fogive me if i'm over stepping my bounds here, but I sort of became convinved that maybe I had a problem, right about the time I started posing questions about a "friend" of mine--didn't even have the balls to admit that i was asking the questions about ME!. take care John |

Yup, me too. I think you can take all of those and turn them into one like George Carlin does with the 10 commandments. Worrying about what everyone thinks of you and that everything is about you. In this thread we were discussing the personality traits of alcoholics. What were you discussing? >I hope to christ people don't rely on you people for help. In this group alone? I would hope not also. However, it can be a useful resource for information pertaining to alcoholism (including the never-ending debate about what "alcoholic" actually is). >If you've got a problem, the best thing to do is actually meet other >alcoholics at an AA meeting, etc; it's remarkable how much it helps. Actually, AA meetings alone do not ensure sobriety from alcohol. Even AA says as much, even if a proportion of its members think differently. >I'm not an alcoholic, but my dad was/is, and unfortunately we don't see each >other anymore owing to my anger over what he done as I grew up - alcoholics >always regret not trying harder sooner. hilarious isn't it pal... an alcoholic 'support' group to some people has turned into a banter-match/let's see which twat can be the funniest... I hope to christ people don't rely on you people for help. If you've got a problem, the best thing to do is actually meet other alcoholics at an AA meeting, etc; it's remarkable how much it helps. I'm not an alcoholic, but my dad was/is, and unfortunately we don't see each other anymore owing to my anger over what he done as I grew up - alcoholics always regret not trying harder sooner. http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/ has details of that particular organisation, and there's always support numbers and groups in your area. I'm in UK, but if you need a number etc for your area - go to http://www.google.com And the best idea would be to search for 'alcoholic support' then your area code, as that works believe it or not! Displays numbers for your area, or try "1800 alcoholics support", etc, in google, and you've made a start! Re: personality traits
Did the 'AA' not have an etc after it? Suggesting i wasn't limiting what i
said to the one organisation/method. One person gave a constructive attempt in their reply to this thread; and if you look at the other threads i think you'll find they're full of rambling, pathethic arguments. It's ashame, I was expecting/hoping for a lot of interesting threads from people trying to develop themselves; instead, what do you find when you read the posts of this newsgroup? Mainly bullshit. Doesn't that bother you at all? Doesn't the bickering, etc, coupled with the mainly insincere attitude of the newsgroup upset anyone, to a point? I'm thanfully not an alcoholic and have no plan in following in my father's footsteps; but if i was one, i'd come here, and be extremely disappointed. This isn't (just) aimed at yourself, as I don't know if you post tosh in other posts here; but it's about helping each other, and instead, a newsgroup that has such good potential, is on the whole, full of nonsense. Re: personality traits
94 Proof, apologies for my rant, but i think it's shite that you don't get a
decent response. Personality traits? Well, some people believe an 'addictive personality' exists in alcoholics, the reliance on things in life to keep them happy. In some ways, we all live that way - but an alcoholic is someone who is addicted to alcohol, this may mean that when you start drinking, you can't stop. If you went out, for talking-sakes, once a month, and got drunk and couldn't get into your house. You're just drunk. If you think about alcohol maybe...or you find yourself getting drunk a lot - few times a week, maybe even just every saturday, for instance, you get used to it, and if you have problems in life, you subconscioussly, and sometimes consciouslly, think that alcohol 'solves' the problems - as when you're drunk, you seem happy. But it doesn't last. Please try get help with your problem - you need it to get on with your life in the best possible manner! go to http://www.google.com and search for information and help material, then get in contact. If you feel it's better just to go talk to someone, go to a friend and explain the problem, let them know if they can't handle it, you need them and other people to help you - as you can't live your life that way, and really enjoy it. Is there any help you need with finding help?
