Thank you (follow up to post on sleeping pattens)

Very many thanks to all of you who responded to my post on sleep patterns. I'm glad to know that
others have experienced what I am now experiencing and encouraged by the thought that things should
improve. I have learnt much from your replies as well as from those websites that Gail mentioned.
Gail, very many thanks for telling me about them.

I think I'll mention my sleeping habits to my doctor when I see him next week to report on my
progress. If he thinks it's appropriate, he will prescribe sleeping pills. For now, I guess I
will just have to do what my body wants. I hope it won't want to rest too much during the day. I
have much work to do.

Hi,
I also have poor sleeping habits. My dr. prescribed Klonopin (i think it's
spelled wrong, but close), and it works really well. It's pretty heavy duty,
so you don't need to take it unless you have about 6 hours in bed to spare.
but there are no sleeping pill "hangovers" like some of the other stuff.

and it's REAL sleep too--dreams and the whole thing (not like being passed out,
like my usual sleep aid did)

just a thought, you might ask the doc about it.

Bloody hell! No wonder you've been having a tough time. How long
have you been on the tranquilizers? If your doc knows you're
alcoholic yet prescribes a benzodiazepine, he should be shot! Sadly,
there's many docs who should be shot.

Maybe you're supposed to have the odd sleepless night in order to
recover? I certainly did. Tranqs can be good for alcohol detox, but
I don't get the impression you're being prescribed for that.

One of the most religious women I know in AA talks of "God" and
"Christianity" and "Holy Spirit" etc. Yet to return home from New
Zealand she needed Valium. Sounds like she doesn't actually trust her
concept of God to keep anxiety at bay. I guess some could rationalise
that one by saying God produced Valium. But then, by that logic God
produced alcohol too!

you said RELIGIOUS, not SPIRITUAL....................there is a big difference!


BM,
loving and trusting in your HP and treating an ANXIETY disorder are not mutually exclusive.
(although there ARE better drugs than valium for this, but you would be just as critical of those also!

Given that anxiety is fear and the Steps are specifically to resolve
fear through developing trust in a Higher Power, how do you reach such
a conclusion for anyone successfully recovering from addiction with
the Steps?

Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the
care of God as we understood him.

Step 11 does not say: Sought through prayer and medication to improve
our conscious contact with God as we understood him...

You have no clue what I would or wouldn't be critical of.

Personally, I prefer the drowsy side effect of Benadryl.

pm. Now that's efficient use of the chemical!
