12 Promises versus 12 Rewards
My sponsor has asked me to find out why the 12 promises, NOT the 12 rewards,
be read at the conclusion of meetings. After searching near and far, the only answer coming to mind is that the 12 Promises are found within the Big Book, while the Rewards were written outside of the book. Does anyone have any insight into this? Any intelligent/pertinent replies are greatly appreciated. - Cartman |

Perhaps the "rewards" (whatever they are) are not found in any approved AA literature, therefore would not (normally) be part of an AA meeting. I've never heard of them, and feel reasonably confident they're in neither the big book nor the 12x12. It's also not true to say that the promises are read at the conclusion of meetings, or at any time in meetings. That's an individual group conscience decision. Your sponsor, not I, is the person who really should be telling you this. My sponsor is there to answer my questions, not the other way around. -- Blue Moon |

Re: 12 Promises versus 12 Rewards
I think you nailed it ! That's reason enough. Tell your sponsor you found
the key in the 1st Concept which says, "As AA groups we are responsible for the service activity of AA as a whole - ie. the writing of uniform AA literature, ..." (a short form). And keep that sponsor - he / she is a good one.
