Doing a little drinking again
I used to drink a lot-- more than a quart of whiskey per day. I did this for
about 10 years. Around 5 years ago I quit drinking, quit smoking, bought a bike and lost 40lbs. In the past year, though I have been socially drinking on some weekends. At first it was no issue-- drank on Saturday got up on Sunday and all was good. Now I get up the next morning and feel fine but sometime between 24 and 48 hours since my last drink I end up having severe panic/anxiety/withdraw type symptoms that can last for a day or two Any ideas why this is happening? Is because of my past excessive drinking that I am going through like a mini- detox everytime now? |

It was part of my denial and I was convinced that I could once again drink socially. Especially after I did it successfully for a few weekends. In my case, when those anxiety and withdrawal symptoms appeared, it wasn't long before my disease told me that a couple of drinks would make them go away. To make a long story short, it wasn't long before I was back to my old routine of daily drinking. You can save yourself a lot of problems by doing what you did 5 years ago. Lay it down. Once you get past those couple of days, you'll never have to feel that way again. Marv |

That is what keeps me from drinking. This isn't because of the excessive amounts I have drank in the past, that is just the way I am. I have been a bit over a year now without a drink. First time in several years that I have had a continuous year of sobriety. Alcohol is just not worth it to me. |
