drop the bottle

I've been having the hardest time with alcohol. I used to drink only
on weekends as a teenager but as i got older i started drinking more
and more. And now it seems i cant get the bottle out of my hand. When
i dont drink i feel so sick and i just urge for hard liquer to take my
pain away. I've tried treatment centers. I've went to treatment
centers, assisted recovery and breakthrough but none worked i went
straight back to the bottle. I also tried online support groups like
the ones on myspace and http://www.addicted.com but even those didn't
help. and recovery groups. It seems like quitting is seriously
impossible!!! does anyone know how i could just stop?

For me it was just keeping busy-- I could not be idle for a moment. The
first few days, after I stopped, I was just so sick I could not do anything
but after that I kept my self busy from the time I got up till I went to
bed. It took a couple of weeks but I eventually got past the urges. Good
luck

Not that fear will stop you, but you will quit, sooner or later. Either
you'll die a death related to drinking, but not before considerable
suffering , or you'll just be done with the suffering and enter the rite
of passage we all do, by getting, and hopefully staying, detoxed. It's not
really complicated. Either you're done suffering, and see alcohol purely
for what it is, or you're not. And before you say it, if you're
still drinking, you're not done suffering.

I recently read of a drug called Topiramate which can reduce alcohol cravings
and the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. The report is in the August 16 2004
edition of Medical News Today (www.medicalnewstoday.com).
