It seems like a nice alternative to AA. No god bothering or spirituality.
It's a nice looking system but behind so many nice looking systems there is
corruption. I joined about a year or so ago because I got fed up with the
god bothering in AA ad all was well for a long time. They even had a online
VOIP meetings system called "EVOICE" that i found pretty effective
especially as I couldn't handle the flowing text of the text based chatrooms
they had. so during one of the meeting I encountered one of the chairpersons
named Jogn but went by the Alias of JVB. He was one of those "Pull youself
together" types, crass. ignorant and had no idea how to deal with the kind
of vulnerable people you would get on smart recovery. In the times he turned
up for meetings he upset a lot of people. Remember this guy was and still is
one of the directors.

Later on some of the female members requested a womens' meeting on the chat
rooms. I origionally objected on the grounds it was sexist but the women
explained that there are things they are not comfortable saying in fron of
men. Ok that's fair enough but at this time the meeting had not been set up,
yet...

Around xmas last year evoice stopped working for me. I thought it was down
but i think it's something to do with a firewalled proxy between me and it.
I got pretty irate because I liked evoice and I have to admit I behaved
badly whne complaining on the forums. After a while I calmed down and
things began to drift. I kept trying evoice and low and behold, around
fecuary time it let me back in for a week then locked me out. I complained
again. Evoice could find nothing wrong. It was at that point that someone
pointed out the firewalled proxy theory. Of course How could i be so stupid.
I had accpeted evoice was of comision for me then gues who came banging in
on the forums answering a reponse i posted days earlier. Now be aware, I
have bipolar and anger management issues, and anyone with any clue would not
have allowed JVB to pipe in but he did and he was aggessive and hostile.
Remember, Smart recovery is for vulnerable people and there are ways to
handle vulnerable people. So imagine what happened. I lost it and told JVB
what I thought of him, that he was an incompetent (among other things) and
bingo. the administrator comes in, withdraws my post and moderates me, not
JVB, me.

Ok I accepted moderation (after a day or two). was looking at the meeting
schedule trying to figure out why i was locked out of meetings (it turns out
moderated people can't atend meetings.. eeerm) and i noticed the women's
meeting had been set up so i figured that i would request a men's meeting
too, (for the sake of sexual equality) and my post requesting it was
moderated out.. hmm. So i asked admin via email why the post was moderated
out as it had NOT broken the rules. I got no answer. So I posted again on
the forum asking for a men's meeting. the post was moderated out again. I
was beginning to get annoyed. scratch that. I was furious. I emailed admin
again. "we feel it would stirr up trouble" was the reply. I replied, "you
let the women post theirs". This bit along with many others was not
responded too. I exchanged a few choice words with admin and who did he send
in to calm the situation down? JVB. In inciter of all the trouble. The very
reason people got so annoyed. JVB banned me for six months sfter i repeated
that he was a incompetent, a sexist and had no clue when it came to
vulnerable people. Again I admit openly I behaved badly but JVB and his
kind's attitude is inexcusable. so, kids. The moral of the story is that
sexual equality only exists when it benefits the women and even places like
charities are guilty of this kind of hipocrisy..

The fact is that you can't fit in anywhere. AA doesn't need you, Smart
Recovery doesn't need you. You neeed them.
Why don't you start your own fellowship if yer so feckin' smart.

AA and Smart recovery are, at their cores, concepts and ideals. Those
things (get this) DO NOT need people. They don't NEED anything. The
organizations themselves ONLY exist because the PEOPLE involved NEED the
ideals and concepts. You have this a wee bit ass backwards.

I don't need AA or SR, and while I have some real valid complaints about
some of the things I saw in AA, and some of the arguments I hear from
the mouths of AAers, I don't at all expect or even ASK for them to adapt
to me or to my needs. Why? Because they are truly irrelevant to me and
to my growth at this point.

The fact that you get so bitter about those groups not doing things the
way you think they should be done....over and over again....suggests you
certainly do, on some level, anyway, think you need them. If you really
didn't, you'd just leave and go off and be sober some other way.

I say fine. Go do that.

Like I said, it isn't about me. its about men being descriminated against
unless of course you are one of these that thinks that only women are
