Depression & Relapse

I have been sober 3 years now, but every day my depression deepens and the
deeper it goes the more likely I am to seek solace in a bottle of rye.
Nothing like booze to cure depression right? Any ideas on what
antidepressants I should try? I really don't want to drink, I just can't
take everyday life anymore.

You're in the right place. Some folks here love playing doctors and nurses
.... with the obligatory disclaimer, off coarse!

However, if you believe there's solace in a bottle of rye you've probably
more drinking ahead of you no matter what pills you pop.

Even if a poster IS INDEED a doctor they still need a disclaimer; do
no harm

Re: Depression & Relapse

I agree with Bob's post. I hope people here don't think I'm trying to
play doctor/nurse here because I'm not. Only sharing info I've run
across with me being an alcoholic as well. And we are always going to
be an alcoholic, even if we don't touch booze ever again.

Re: Depression & Relapse

I agree with all the posts here. But I also suffer from severe
depression and mania. Without offering specific medical advise about
drugs that are available I can say this, there are medications for
depression and some work very well. The problem should be adressed by a
psychiatrist. The first diagnosis or prescription may not be a perfect
match for you and if so report this to your doc as well, there are
quite a list of medications and not all are a match for everyone.

With that said there is plenty of action you can take yourself that
don't require medications. Such as meetings, sharing your feeling as
you are, excersize, propper diet, vitamins, correct sleeping habits,
nature walks or just walking in general, warm soothing baths, avoiding
isolation and over sleeping, socializing with sober friends. And many
more.

One thing for sure, a bottle of Rye is the exactly wrong remedy and if
your anything like an alcoholic it will shurely make things worse
rather than better.

Booze doesn't cure depression, it makes it worse.

Legal answer: Consult your doctor.
And I'm not gonna suggest grass
