Re: Lent
Dude, good start. When you slip, the only thing to do is to get right back
at it. Hell, if a slip was the end of it, none of us would have quit. We all met at a restaurant and my paranoia about driving usually helps me not get out of hand. I usually do all my drinking at home, usually alone in front of the tv or computer. I did quit (for all practical purposes) when I got my first computer because I was afraid I would get drunk and mess it up, then I quit cigarettes and knew I couldn't drink if I didn't want to start back up. For the last several years, especially since me and my wife split last May, I have been drinking more than I really want to. Most people would say I don't drink a lot, which I don't, but once I start I usually don't stop till I am either out of stuff to drink or just totally shithoused. Mostly I just get tired of drinking myself stupid. It is tough facing people the next day. -phy |

Re: Lent
Hi JimB, Dickhead, here......
Keeping sober is great. Relapses happen. I may have set a record ;-) I just do not think sugar coating a relapse is appropriate. It can set up another relapse (I slip on ice), by thinking that 1, 2, 3, etc are OK for you. Keep up the good efforts. Dan is right - get right back at it! JimB |

I will say this as I do get the posters point as it really wasn't meant to be negative, and was posted with good intentions. If you went to a few meetings or read some the big book you'd get what i mean. Of course some the AA extremist don't realize everybody has an AA mindset and have gone to meetings. Shit like this scares folks off. But like your reaction was i agree comments like that kinda piss me off too. I've seen people guilt tripped at meeting for doing sobriety without meetings and eventually convincing people they might as well been drinking as it was a 'dry drunk' Bullshit in my opinion. Whatever reason you quit fine if that's what you wanna do. Think that's a good sacrifice for lent whether you have a drinking problem or not. Fuck it. Don't take some these comments to heart they are meant with good intentions but like i say shit like that pisses me off too. |
