Another first

I just spent 4 days in Manhattan and not only never had a drink, I never
even wanted one. I don't remember seeing NYC stone cold sober. Amazing.

My 17 year old son and I went to see Light in the Piazza and MoMA and
Rockefeller Center all Christmassed up and shopped at Bloomies and Saks and
walked all-the-hell over Manhattan and got out of town 6 hours before the
transit strike started and went to Princeton to see my other son. It's
amazing how much more you can see of a place when you aren't spending all of
your time figuring where you can get your next drink.

Merry stuff,

Dan

Re: Another first

One of my first getting sober attempts a couple
years back .. I was in Times Square when it was
-40 degrees ( no kidding ) staying at the Hilton or Mariott,
wind blowing people off the streets ... no way to get away from cold ..

and we got picked up in a taxi to go to a company sponsored
party .. and I dropped my AA 24 hr token coin from my pocket,
and I'm trying to dig it out of the frozen slush/ice/trash/piss/stink
gutter on 52nd and Broadway ...thinking this is really happening ...
digging in the gutter of NY .. sober .. to get a coin ..
I got ripped later that night any way ... Free bar ! But I kept the
coin
and gave it away to a friend sometime later after a dry spell.

too funny- I just returned Tues. from a few solo days in NYC as well. The
strike was in full swing as I escaped (barely). Made the usual Christmas
rounds, took in a matinee of "Doubt" and even hit the Village for a meeting
at the Red Door. Sobriety is soo under-rated. I'm ready to repeat the
sounding joy.

blessings to all

-Steve

Also, I went to the gayest place in the known universe: the 4 story Bed
Bath & Beyond on Broadway across the street from the Lincoln Center! It
just doesn't get any better than that.
