Well, as far as I know, they weren't drugged and then forced to a
regular schedule of personal confession in PsycholoPriest sessions. Or,
were they?

Nothing *that* hideous, no. They were just ripped off their
possessions and jobs etc. and put away on concentration camps for a
few years.

Yeah, but look at the bright side: the punitively interred can be
gainfully deployed and employed as a Work(not welfare)force. We've
already had the crime prisons producing license plates and such. The
Debtor Prison... er, Camp can similarly pick up some similar
productivity, as can the grateful souls at the Poor House. Or stadiums.
Or compounds.
