this is a real problem for me. i have a very strong desire to stop
drinking for a month or so at a time - and I do find some meetings
very useful for this.

But, who knows, it's quite likely I suppose, evetually i'll probably
relapse big time and then i'll be able to sign up for real. Cwazee
world, innit ;-)

I do know some people in AA who stop for a time, then relapse (some of
them spectacularly). A few have been going to AA for 10 or more
years. So you're not alone. I just don't understand why they keep
coming to AA, but that's my problem, not theirs (nor yours)

my guess is their is very little alternative support around. If you
want to attend a group that supports each other with some form of
controlled drinking - where you help each other through the dry times
- I don't think there are many places to go... and maybe thats because
it doesn't work!

cheers, dan
