10 days sober

10 days sober now have to make a better effort to
get to more AA meetings. So busy but no excuse.
Looking forward to meetings and sobriety..
Reading the big book again. Trying to figure out
what to do this weekend, I know what i'm not going
to do, and that's drink..

Too busy for meetings? What were you "busy" doing 10 days ago? Yes it is an
excuse.. That's the "sort-of" intellectual honesty you are practicing there.
Someone told me once if I drank five nights a week, go to meetings on the
days I drank.
I didn't suddenly find myself in the position I couldn't find the time for
meetings. I had always found time to drink. If I were "too busy" for
meetings it was probably because I was nurturing another addiction in some
fashion.

Some time back, when "xntrick" was working on 14 days, he was fixing the
barbecue, repairing a car antenna, generally doing a lot of small house
repairs. I went back to cooking and started making myself some excellent
meals. Doing something useful that needs done works for a lot of us.

Congratulations on 10 days! Keep busy with useful stuff.

Re: 10 days sober

When I feel like blowing off meetings, I have to ask mysef how powerless
over alcohol do i think i really am. The truth is I only need to go to
two meetings..When i want to, and especially when I DONT WANT TO.

I have to explain something. People here think i
am making excuses for not going to meetings. I am
not. I do go to meetings, and as many that are
realistically possible for me to go to. I can
probably do 4 a week with my schedule. I work
over 50 hours a week i drive 3 hours a day to and
from work. I get home 2:30 in the morning only
meeting i can possibly go to during the week is at
10 am. I still go during the week, I cannot
physically go to one every single day. I cannot
physically go to 90 meetings in 90 days.. I have a
recovery plan that will work if i work it. I
cannot quit my job I have the best job i've every
had. I DO GO TO MEETINGS. Saturday and Sunday
are guaranteed meetings, and tuesday and thursday
are all day i am going to meetings no excuses, all
other days are dependent on amount of sleep i get
for work. I DO HAVE A PLAN. If i work it I will
stay sober. I do appreciate all comments, i just
feel not everyone knows exactly where i'm coming
from.

Hi Bryan,

I don't need to "explian/defend" my program to anyone. I can't work
anyone elses program and they can't work mine. I don't "need" to go to
X # of meetings per week. I go when Ted needs to go to a meeting. I
usually don't "want' to go to meetings but, for me, the bottom line is
needs vs. wants. As far as family, work, getting to meetings, etc.;
you have your priorities, I have mine. But like my sponsor says: Have
you ever gotten drunk for going to too many meetings? Do you have a
sponsor, Bryan?

It may sound silly and past the personal boundary limits, so I will
ask rhetorically: How are you sleeping? Are you getting at least
eight hours of restful sleep per night? Do you feel rested when you
awake in the morning? In the beginning of your sobriety, restful sleep
is very important. Restful sleep is always important but especially so
in the beginning. The beta waves in your brain get all messed up when
you are using. When you quit drinking, the brain still craves alcohol
and you have what is called "brain excitation." I couldn't sleep for
shit without a med for the first six months.

Are you eating three, healthy, well ballanced, nutritious meals a day?
Very important that you do.

On those days when you can't get to a meeting, do you have a phone
list of support people that you can call 24/7? Hells bells... you
can call me! I'll do damn near anything to stay clean and sober and
will help others to do so as well.

Ted
