cravings & medication!

Hi
I am taking efexor for anxiety & depression, however, i am feeling
unable to stop my drinking in the evenings.
I know that my drinking is preventing me from getting well, but i get a
craving & end up drinking too much.
I wish i could just have 1 or 2 & stop.

Is valium a way to control alcohol cravings & is there a drug to reduce my
cravings!

Thanks

Gary

Try it. By so doing, you'll be able to answer your own question.

What one person does and finds helpful to them isn't always what
another person who tries the same thing finds helpful to them.

Re: cravings & medication!

no gary, valium would NOT be the answer.
why not talk to your doctor about your drinking, and get some help.
the doors to AA are always open to you!

BTW, I'd recommend small doses of Librium 25mg 3 times
per day and one for bed for at least the first week.

Gary,

I can't say what'll help you reduce your cravings... Its been a week of
Temazapan to just get me to sleep.... doesnt mean the cravings gone tho'...
I guess it subsides (one day)

Hope it goes OK... tell your Dr.... they do have a clue (well i hope
so!!!)

Re: cravings & medication!

Valium is not an Opiate. There are drugs out to help with cravings though I
can't vouch personally for whether they work effectively or not. Naltroxene
is the first that comes to mind which was originally used to block the
effects of Opiates, but was found effective at reducing cravings for
alcohol. I have corresponded with some that are taking it and have found it
effective, but I would be afraid I would want to "test" it and see if it
blocks the alcohol buzz. :-) There are some others that are close to being
released. Google can find others.
