An Orange County Court jury today convicted former Crawford Town cop
Kevin Griffin of second-degree murder for killing Timothy Ruiz on March
13, 2004 in the parking lot of the Galleria at Crystal Run in the Town
of Wallkill.

Griffin, who was jealous of the friendship between Ruiz, who lived in
Pine Bush, and Griffin's then-girlfriend, had previously stalked the
store manager. He waited for Ruiz at the end of Ruiz's shift at the Old
Navy store and as he approached his vehicle, Griffin shot him to death
with a .22 caliber rifle.

Griffin, who lives in Ellenville, faces a prison sentence of 25 years to
life when sentenced next month. He was arrested on April 9 after an
intensive investigation by State Police at Middletown.

Shortly after Ruiz was murdered, his father said he had moved his family
from New York City to the Hudson Valley in an attempt to provide his
children with a better life.
