dear chris,
http://www.aa-intergroup.org/ is the link to AA, and if you need to
find a sponsor online, i suggest that you go to their lists of
meetings, join one, and find a sponsor within that group.

HOWEVER, i cannot stress enough, the importance of having a sponsor
that you can meet with FACE TO FACE.
it is my experience, and it works for many, many others too!

Rosie,

Maybe you saw my post about e-aa.org. If you did and think that its
website is a site that no-one seeking to recover from alcoholism via
the AA route should consider looking at, would you mind explaining why
that is ?

> HOWEVER, i cannot stress enough, the importance of having a sponsor

Could you please explain why you think that ?

From the following extracts from "Questions and Answers on
Sponsorship" ( AA General Service Conference-approved literature), I
can see no reason why F2F Sponsors ought to be thought better than
on-line ones:

"Sponsorship is Twelfth Step but it is also *continuing
responsibility" for helping a newcomer adjust to a way of life without
alcohol.

Sponsorship strengthens the older member's sobriety.

A Sponsor does everything possible, within the limits of personal
experience and knowledge to help the newcomer get sober and stay sober
through the AA program."

Incidentally, from listening to people at the AA meetings I go to, it
appears that the majority of conversations which many Sponsees and
their Sponsors have are telephone conversations.

Maybe we can agree that if someone who decides to get a Sponsor finds
someone willing to take on the job either as a result of meeting that
person through an on-line AA group or a F2F meeting for example, and
makes progress in recovery as a result of working with them, that
should be cause for rejoicing.

Dear Bob,

Thank you for re-posting this. It enables me to share my view that
when I am working as a Sponsor I can share my interpretation of AA's
programme; other lessons I've learnt in AA and my view on how both
have helped me make progress in recovery but only my Sponsee can
decide whether or not anything I say is helpful to her and only she
can make decisions and take actions that could enable her eventually
to recover from alcoholism.

I think it a good idea to encourage my Sponsee to continue listening
to what other people in recovery and her professional councillor have
to say and to share with me anything that she's heard that she's found
helpful. Maybe this will enable me to learn things from her that will
benefit me.

I am pleased to have the chance to be a Sponsor and while on the job
hope to never forget my limitations. I subscribe to the view that as
a mere human being never can I always be right about everything" ;^)

LOL!
its a shame that you and bob cannot tell the difference between a
declarative sentence and me just sharing my experience.

my experience is ALL i can share with another alcoholic in a support
group.
it has worked quite well thus far!

Rosie, your reply might cause some to wonder why you've jumped to the
conclusion that I was talking about you:

You don't think that might have something to do with the fact that
"online" didn't exist when you sobered up?

it remains my experience, that a FACE TO FACE sponsor works!
at least in early sobriety.
