Serenity, serenity . . . Ommmmmmm <LOL>

As a "program running in the background" for the last two days I have
been boiling down a hambone and three hamhocks, soaking and then cooking my
navy beans and putting it all together with other stuff to make some decent
bean soup.
Just now, taking it off the stove, I dropped the pot, lost my dinner,
stained my slacks and made a mess of my kitchen.
What does this have to do with recovery? While I was cleaning up the
mess, I asked myself how I would have handled this while I was drinking. I
had to laugh and admit that while I was drinking I wouldn't have made the
damned soup to start with!
Keep your sobriety and your serenity -- and hold on to your bean soup!
Dan

Thanks, Rosie, I read every day, even if I don't always post (although I seem
to be doing more of that lately...) I'm looking very hard. I'm still like a
boat at sea without an anchor, and there's rough seas ahead, matey, even I can
see it, but I have big hope, and right now that is sustaining me. I can only
pray that when the rough stuff hits, I'll be able to make shore safely.

Here's one of my favorite quotes. Most people only remember the "simplify,
simplify" part:

"In the midst of this chopping sea of civilised life, such are the clouds and
storms and quicksands and the thousand-and-one items to be allowed for, that a
man has to live, if he would not founder and go to the bottom and not make his
port at all, by dead reckoning, and he must be a great calculator indeed who
succeeds. Simplify, simplify."

Thoreau ~ Walden
Really read that.

As a boat-and-water-person, the idea of living (or boating) by dead reckoning
is a sobering one indeed. Although I think that is the only thing left to me.
All my artificial instruments have begun to fail, and I am faced with the
calculations that are simple, but by no means easy.

Personally, I'm a punter. I'm willing to go into deep water if someone else
is at the helm, but I'm not taking charge in water too deep to reach the
bottom with a pole.
