We need a moderator

Or maybe I just need a more moderate temper. Alcocure is starting to make me
mad.

I lurk on a couple of moderated groups and I enjoy them for their very lack of
ads/trolls. Not that the flame wars don't get started!! But they are mostly
on topic, at least.

Good idea, perhaps we could weed out the transvestitism and election topics
too. Not sure which is worse, lol.

Or if you have knowledge of AA teachings/sayings/prayers, make use of
them ? :^)

Well, if a certain person (who shall remain nameless for the sake of wear and
tear on the asbestos activewear) gets elected, or re-elected (ha! thought you
had me there, didn'cha?), I shall have to move either 1) out of the country
entirely or 2) to the Montana/Idaho border region, which is essentially the
same thing, I hear. And I say this every four years......

Why?

"Alcocure"'s message is more on-topic than many messages I've seen
here. I may have my doubts about it, I may have unanswered questions
about it, I may even be able to explore its logical fallacy, but it's
more on-topic for alcoholism than a lot of stuff here such as religion
or smoking.

If people want an AA-only newsgroup, they're in the wrong place.

Re: We need a moderator

Hi Vaney
I think what might help is if as many people as possible tried to state the
basis that they are speaking from. Say for instance, "My name is Mias and I
am an alcoholic." as opposed to 'My name is alcocure and I am in the
moneymaking / denial business"
Each person would in effect then be modearting him/herself and those that
are not sure yet are not going to be not welome.
That would not make it an AA group just as wearing wings does not make my
house heaven.
What do you think?
Kind regards
Mias

Re: We need a moderator

Hi Vaney (continued...)
It would be easy to see who are trolls. Anybody opposing such a simple
suggestion would identify themselves as lurking 'moderation' drinkers or
whatever, by that action. Will make the world a lot simpler.
BTW, an old-timer once told me that if I want to test my willpower (To drink
like a gentleman) I should mix half a litre of luke warm water and three
heaped tablespoons of Epsom Salts and the not go to the toilet for a week.
If I could do that successfully I probably have sufficient willpower.
On a lighter note, do you not think postings like that gets one to sit up
and remember the denial one went thru once and makes you gratefull for
keeping life simple and sober? Imagine paying good money and spending good
time just to enrich somebody else and take a chance of falling of the cliff,
one more time. No Way thank you not for me! Too much like switching from
Brandy to Beer to Whisky to Wine to mix-with-water to mix-with-cola to
tranquilisers back to Brandy to Beer to Whisky to Wine to mix-with-water to
mix-with-cola to tranquilisers....
Is it not glorious to be able to look into the mirror and say, 'I love you
SO much!" or "Hi world, what you see is what you get today"?
Let us perhaps rather accept that our friend is in denial because if he/she
is here for a few dollars more hell has not enough heat for him/her, one
day. The wheel does turn and as one soweth so does one reapeth and for every
action there is a like and opposite reaction and Kharma and Dharma and what
goes around comes around. (While the stomach churneth!)
I am free today because of who I decided to walk with and still walk with,
not because I am such a great guy. Let me never forget that.
Kind regards
Mias

Re: We need a moderator

Hi Vaney (continued...)
For instance, there would be nothing wrong with a person stating 'My name is
xxx and I am a moderation drinker" At least then people who have tried
moderation drinking will be able to sympathise and offer that person advise
on recovery. Or, my name is YYY and I am a normal drinker" then one could
cheer him on and wonder why, if life is so normal, do they spend time in
alcoholic places? (Except if for money or if they need to convince
themselves of their 'normality')
Kind regards

Re: We need a moderator

Hi Vaney (continued ... final ... you hope)
Thank you for this platform where you allow me to vent myself of my pent-up
resentments and alcoholic venom. I need that to stay sober and I know you
understand. It is good to have friends like this who knows me and accepts me
as twisted and bedonderd as I am. (Do not tell me you can not figger out
what 'bedonderd' means) Life is not always simple and easy just because one
does not drink and I need you lot to stay sober.
Thank you
Mias

One time I posted a short paragraph to a mensa group that was moderated. On
topic, no profanity or insults, I just opined that the mental abilities the
mensa tests measure are only a tiny sliver of human intelligence, and
therefore, those who do well on such tests and then hold their score up as
definitive proof of their mental superiority are delusional social retards.
Not only that, the whole premise of a club for the mentally superior is
socially repugnant and so, as Groucho Marx once said, "I don't care to
belong to a club that accepts people like me as members. "

Well, the moderator chose to spare the group my unwelcome observations.
That's the danger of having a gatekeeper -along with the trolls and ads,
whatever that particular censor doesn't like gets tossed out too.

-Fred
