5 day alcohol dependence onset..

I usually never drank too much (just on the weekends), but since last
friday I went through two bottles of liquor, every night drinking
about half the bottle and wednesday I decided to go to bed (not drink)
and I couldn't fall asleep at all.

So, wednesday came and went and last night I though I'd fall asleep
quickly since I hadn't slept in over 24 hours. No such luck. I was up
all night. After getting back from class today I thought I'd try again
but still couldn't fall asleep. I can only attribute this to the
alcohol since nothing else has changed for me.

I've had some weak knees all today, if that makes sense to anyone. I
never thought that such a short time of drinking heavily would have
such an impact on the body.

I was wondering anyone ever hear of this happening to others before? I
always thought alcohol dependecy was a product of something more
prolonged.

Jeez, are you sure your weakness is only your knees? Your "usual"
drunken weekends stretching into weekday gluttony reads more like
evolving stupidity than the overpowering alcoholic dependency it
almost certainly will be, if you don't wake up to yourself.

YES, it is very possible that you are feeling this way due to a
chemical change in your body.
don't skip meals, and drink lots of water!
if you continue to feel this badly, you might want to get in touch
with your doctor.

Re: 5 day alcohol dependence onset..

Almost the exact same thing happened to me. I had never been a daily
drinker, but was a binge drinker. I then went for a period of about 8
days of drinking daily, and drinking very heavily for the last 4 or 5
days of that 8 day stretch. I had become physically (maybe
psychologically too) dependent. I went through 3 days of almost total
insomnia (and many other withdrawal symptoms like the weakness you
mentioned). I was finally able to sleep after the fourth day. Just
give it some time, you will be able to sleep eventually. Pretty
horrible, isn't it? If things get worse for you, see a doctor. Alcohol
withdrawal can be very dangerous.

Personally, I decided that I never want to go through that again. I
have finally come to the realization that if you get dependent on
alcohol and you keep drinking, you have only ONE path to follow. It
eventually leads to premature death. Been sober now for 23 days and
don't want to go back.

Oh, dear. Getting drunk instead of studying? My only advice is to
minimize the damage by not taking any important classes until you sober
up. Or better yet, drop out of school immediately (they'll even let you
withdraw from the current semester, if you cite personal problems, and
it's not like the last week before finals). Hopefully, by the time you
sober up, you'll still have some sort of future left as a student.

Drinking was for the weekends after studying. It just spilled over
through the week because of the labor day holiday this time. Never
thought a few days worth of hard drinking could bring on such effects.
Anyway, I finally got to sleep late Saturday night, so that's a
relief.

As far as my drinking went, it never interferred with my studies one
bit since I postponed all drinking until after all my work was done,
and used the alcohol as a relaxer before bed time on the weekends
(usually).

My future as a student is still excellent...

Yeah, this is something I've never heard of before. It definitely
wasn't fun. Other than the insomnia and some mild discomfort in the
legs I think I was fortunate in not having more side effects. I
learned a lesson for sure about binge drinking. I'm not sure if I'm
ready to give it up alcohol all together, but what you and I did is
something that I'll never repeat again.

That is probably true, but from the brief introduction you have afforded me
I would predict that your future as an Alcoholic is even more certain. This
last post tells me you are self-medicating. Do yourself a favor and be aware
of the path you are heading down.
