What was your bottom?
It occurred to me this morning that, drunk or sober, everyone stops
drinking sooner or later. 'The bottom' for many of my relatives has involved a family gathering, a wooden box and a priest. Some of you (like john Drogue's experience, posted yesterday) involved little more than a realisation and (not to paraphrase, but...) the acceptance of a new way forward. And - clearly - many more of you (such as R. McGregor's posted experiences) went way further down a miserable road before choosing to turn around. The other concept that comes up from time to time is the myth of the bottom... (just stop digging and you're there... doesn;t need to involve an arrest or the loss of your home etc.) It would be interesting to many to hear about individual experiences - both the tragic 'bottoms' and those that were more passive. best, Chegs |

But more than all that I had lost myself. I had driven that road warrior Cadillac down the road over the cliff and when I'd hit bottom, I got out a shovel and dug deeper. John |

I only know only one person who was as alcoholic as me that got sober (and stayed sober for 8yrs) by himself. I know many many who have done it with AA. I know I'm one of the dolts (per that yutz Greatly Anal-hp-gawd) who keeps telling the people out there still suffering that AA is the way to go but it saved my ass when I was a zombie--a walking dead man. Did you read where I was when I sobered up. Even though I am currently unemployed and can not afford to call you long distance, I am living Life again thanks to my Creator and AA. Me calling you is not the point, you deciding to call someone is. John PS The name I post under is my own and my email address is not a cover. |

There is always a chance that those of us who tried AA and got results are just full of it. Who cares? Well, we care and many of us are sober because of what we found there. As John pointed out -- you gotta call - you gotta go. Maybe AA is not ready for you -- Maybe you are not ready for AA. But from what you say, it's unlikely it going to to AA will make it any worse. I hope we get to see you there. We'll be the ones laughing -- at ourselves -- You see, we're not a glum lot. Bobby L |

Re: What was your bottom?
Dear Greg - Do something different. If you keep on doing what you always did
you will keep on getting what you always got. There is a way and you will be able to follow that way and be happy and sober. I promise you. Or as JB said, you can call A.A. and there's usually somebody who's been sober awhile who might be better to talk with than another currently drinking person. But I'll call you if you like, provided area code 615 isn't some scam pay-per-minute offshore deal.... -Fred |
